🚘“Would you be ready to invest 2️⃣0️⃣ min-a-day in charging your EV?“ Dirk Voeste asked. I answer Yes ✅ If we mean what we say, then our actions need to follow. Embracing electric mobility is a significant contribution towards mitigation of climate warming. 🔋🔌 Thank you Dirk and team from Volkswagen Group for inviting me to “Moving What Matters”. Decarbonizing Road Transportation, responsible for >10% global GHG emissions, is key to mitigate climate change. Leader companies are on call and we users are called to change. 🚌 Personally, I am also willing to invest 30 min a-day by using public transportation. Looking forward to solutions that reinvent people mobility with - AND also - beyond owning a car. #decarbonization #sustainability

While this article starts to meander about half way through and never really pulled me back in, the first half provides great perspective on why our industry continues to fight for a seat at the table along side electrification. We cannot afford to wait for emission reductions -- for every 5 years you wait to take action, you must reduce your emissions 13 times more to have the same climate impact -- and whether you talk about Al Gore's wedges or the catchier silver buckshot, we need all the partial solutions to climate change to add up to the result that we need -- actually mitigating climate change. Our energy transition trajectory cannot take a hard left without breaking some societal obligations, so let's work together to bend it, push it down and get us on the right path to improved outcomes for future generations.

A damning new report has shown that nearly all major car companies are actively sabotaging the world’s efforts to avoid catastrophic global warming. The lobbying strategies being used by the world’s largest automakers are putting global climate targets at risk and threatening the electric vehicle transition, according to the new report released by InfluenceMap. The report says Japanese automakers are the least prepared for the EV transition and have the most active, strategic engagement against it. Aside from Tesla, only Mercedes and BMW have EV production forecasts that align with the IEA’s updated 1.5°C scenario which requires 66% of all new car sales to be EVs by 2030. “Toyota, with a Performance Band score of D, remains the lowest-scoring company and is found to be driving opposition to climate rules in multiple regions.” says the report. “In regulatory comments submitted in 2023, Toyota advocated to weaken GHG emissions standards in the US and Australia, engaged against stringent zero-emission vehicle mandates in Canada and the UK. Globally, in 2023- 24, multiple climate policies for light-duty vehicles have been weakened following industry pressure.” “This includes US greenhouse gas emission standards and Australia’s fuel efficiency standards.” https://lnkd.in/gECR3VJs

Some critics of electric vehicles make the legitimate point that electric vehicles (EVs) are not zero carbon. They may be zero emissions at the tailpipe but not throughout their lifecycle. So how do they compare to a gasoline-fueled vehicle? The Union of Concerned Scientists has crunched the numbers. Watch this short video to learn more. From a local perspective, the electrification of personal mobility is coming. Getting ahead of this transition will ensure your community is an enabler and not a passive bystander - or worse a barrier - to their adoption. While electrification will reduce the emissions associated with personal mobility, it will not address the growing unsustainability of a transportation system for personal mobility which continues to consume too much space in the urban environment. That is why reducing average trip length and promoting non-automobile transportation modes are also key measures to building more equitable and climate friendly cities. #energyconscious

🌍 2015–2016: The UK's Growing Focus on Electric Vehicles 🚗⚡ 3rd Milestone, the UK significantly ramped up its efforts to decarbonize transport and move toward a cleaner future. Here are the pivotal moments that shaped this shift: 🔹 2015: The UK signs the Paris Agreement, committing to keep global warming below 2°C, intensifying the push for transport sector decarbonization. 🔹 2015: The Volkswagen Dieselgate scandal hits, damaging diesel vehicle reputations and accelerating the shift toward electric vehicles. 🔹 2016: The UK introduces Clean Air Zones, allowing local authorities to restrict high-emission vehicles, tackling urban air pollution head-on. These events marked a major turning point in the UK’s transition to cleaner, greener transport! 🌱 What role do you think EVs will play in the future of transport? Share your thoughts below! #RoadToZero #ParisAgreement #NetZero

Our commitment to taking action on climate change is a journey – it doesn't happen overnight 🌏 By 2030, we've pledged to transition to a fully electric vehicle (EV) passenger fleet. We're gradually replacing internal combustion engine vehicles with comparable EVs as they reach the end of their lifespan. It's one of the ways we're reducing our impact and lowering our carbon emissions. Recently, we've integrated 20 new EVs into our fleet, replacing a mix of passenger and light commercial vehicles, bringing our EV fleet to a total of 48 🚗 #OurPathtoNetZero

Some very interesting and salient points here. The climate doesn’t differentiate between emissions from one country or another; only people do. https://lnkd.in/gEAM6aCk

Following some interesting conversations with customers, I’ve been giving a lot of thought recently to the issues and challenges companies have around reducing their CO2 emissions. 🌿 My main conclusion? When it comes to mobility we can act now! ⌛ At COP28 we created a challenge together with Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, Drive Change Today, to demonstrate how every driver can reduce their CO2 emissions by increasing their awareness of eco-driving techniques. Things as simple as paying more attention, staying focused, and planning ahead. During the two weeks the challenge was running participants achieved an average CO2 emissions reduction of approximately 10%, demonstrating that - with little effort - everyday drivers all around the world can make a HUGE difference to environmental impact, just by being more aware of their driving. 🚗 Incredibly, the TOP THREE eco-drivers in the challenge achieved a massive average CO2 emission reduction of 35%! Imagine what this can do for the world’s CO2 emissions if we start to measure and act on our driving today. ✨ I'm so happy that organizations are now recognizing the many benefits of reducing their climate impact. Here’s me and my amazing colleague Caroline Brix about to take meetings about this very topic last week. 🤝 #AI #mobility #CO2emissions #driversafety #sustainability
