The need to communicate #time cuts across every discipline. It is essential to the distribution of findings, the implementation of effective long-term policy, the construction of narratives and arguments, and the dissemination of key messages. All these areas require us to optimally communicate concepts of time that frequently don’t fit within the dominant, short-term-focused world and society in which we live. Tackling the problematic mismatch in timescales between macro-scale phenomena and the everyday experience, or between continuous, ‘slow’ phenomena and the events-driven information-delivery systems of modern society, is a fundamental challenge. I have watched #researchers become divided because of the #credibilitycrisis. One side says “I am doing my job” and the other side says “It’s not good enough.” But, I ask: What can you actually do about it? Most people will not care about the thing that you’re thinking about, a small fraction will be so upset that all they do is sit and argue about it endlessly. You will be the one that will actually do something about it. What can you actually do? Here is what I think: What is the problem that you’re facing? And how can you tackle it, such that people don’t even realize that you’re actually tackling it. For those that can see through what you’re doing, you can give us “wink and nod.” They understand that you’re tackling a larger problem. But, everybody else will be too self-interested or arguing over irrelevant things to even notice. By the time they think about it, they will say “remember when we used to…” Let’s #changescience. The source of everything admirable in us, intellectually and morally, is our ability to correct errors! In #research, I used to build almost entirely on experience, with #discussions happening at the end. But in #industry, it's different—discussion shapes the path from the start, helping us "interpret" experience as we go. This shift has taught me that it’s not just experience that drives progress; it’s how we discuss and reflect on that experience! Fellow researchers transitioning to industry, take note! 😌😊 #academia

📢 Exploring Paths to a U.S. Digital Skills Framework (And Why We Need One)📢 Digital skills are the key to unlocking digital inclusion, equitable broadband access, and economic opportunity. A recent report by the Open Technology Institute at New America, emphasises the urgent need for a national digital skills framework. This report explores how a unified framework could drive measurable improvements in digital literacy and inclusion. Key Insights: ✅ Digital skills gaps often coincide with broadband access disparities, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities. ✅ Existing frameworks like Northstar and DigComp offer useful models but lack nationwide standardization. ✅ Higher digital skills lead to increased broadband adoption and greater trust in digital services. ✅ The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) underscores the importance of measurable digital skills objectives. ✅ A national framework could unify state and local digital inclusion efforts while fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Implications: 🎯 A national framework would enable educators, policymakers, and advocates to address skills gaps with precision, align training with national goals, and create a cohesive approach to digital inclusion.
