🌍 Exciting news for Biodiversity: Reforest'Action received one of the first The Global Biodiversity Standard (TGBS) certifications! 🌱 A few weeks ago, our portfolio company, Reforest'Action, took part in COP16 Colombia, which unveiled the first scientifically rigorous certification for biodiversity restoration: #TGBS. Developed by Botanic Gardens Conservation International and a global network of experts, this standard redefines how we safeguard ecosystems while supporting local communities and addressing climate challenges. As a technical partner, Reforest'Action contributed to shaping this significant milestone, leveraging its expertise in #biodiversity impact management and innovative monitoring tools. Now, it serves as the TGBS certification hub for Western Europe—a role that reflects its leadership in ecosystem restoration. This achievement is exemplified by the certification of the "Community-based Landscape and High Andean Forest Restoration Project" in Nariño, Colombia, created with Fundación Impulso Verde. We’re supporting the call to action of this year’s International Day for Biodiversity to ‘Be Part of the Plan’ in order to reverse the loss of biodiversity. We’re on a mission to minimise our environmental impact and enhance the biodiversity of the ecosystems we interact with across our operations. We’ve committed to deliver a 10% increase in biodiversity across our estate by 2030 and we’re adopting a nature positive approach to drive action, as we strive to create a safe and secure world, together. Last year we conducted a pilot study and we’re now using these results to develop a programme of work. We’re exploring areas across our estates where we can deliver improvements in the short-term and we’re planning to complete biodiversity assessments across our significant sites by the end of 2024 to identify longer-term priorities and targets. #BiodiversityDay #PartOfThePlan #ForNature

A biosphere reserve is a designated area that promotes the conservation of biodiversity, research, and sustainable use of natural resources. It consists mainly of three zones which are the Core Zone, Buffer Zone and Transition Zone. Biosphere reserves are important as they help preserve ecosystems, promote sustainable practices, and engage local communities in conservation efforts. The Chimanimani Biosphere Reserve is a remarkable example of how we can balance biodiversity conservation with sustainable development. GIS plays an essential role in managing biosphere reserves. As part of its broader biodiversity investment strategy, Level is committed to exploring and evaluating opportunities to develop, and collaborate in the development of, biodiversity crediting projects. We see tremendous potential in this evolving market to channel finance to nature conservation, support efforts to close the global biodiversity funding gap, and drive progress in halting and reversing biodiversity loss. However, it is still in its infancy. On the other hand, the voluntary carbon market is maturing and is already delivering finance to biodiversity conservation through natural climate solutions. Level’s carbon assets are generated through the protection of forests in collaboration with local forest communities. I'm excited to share the work of my Ramboll colleagues in the first release of our new #BiodiversityMetric tool for the Americas. The new metric, developed with support and guidance from NatureServe, is a #free biodiversity quantification tool designed to measure the biodiversity value of sites across the Americas. This first release focuses on habitats in the Northeastern US including #NewJersey, #NewYork, and #Pennsylvania, with the anticipated release later this year of the remaining US and Canadian habitats. The Towards 30by30 report highlights the critical need for conserving 30% of the planet's land and water by 2030 to combat biodiversity loss. Signed as part of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, the report critiques current conservation methods, revealing gaps in protecting vital ecosystem services that sustain billions of people. It advocates a new approach, emphasising the need for effective management, dynamic monitoring, and the inclusion of areas with high biodiversity value to ensure long-term ecological resilience. Effective implementation of 30by30 can also support broader biodiversity restoration goals. Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) became mandatory in February this year and is now applicable to small developments also. As part of the government’s Environment Act, BNG will make sure wildlife habitats are left in a better state than before development, and in doing so make a significant contribution to nature’s recovery. On Biodiversity Day, we celebrate the diversity of the natural world and highlight the diversity of ways to protect it. 🌿 🦥 🐠 🍄  This year's theme, "Be part of the plan," calls on everyone to join the Biodiversity Plan (Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework) and contribute to maintaining balance in Earth's ecosystems. For us, it is also an opportunity to recognize the work of Lemu stewards around the world who are already doing their part through multiple nature-based solutions.  From conserving pristine ecosystems, restoring degraded ecosystems, reforesting forests and jungles, and monitoring habitats full of life, to reintroducing plant and animal species, protecting threatened species, contributing to research, and raising community awareness, each steward is making a big difference. Today, we thank them for each of their actions in favor of the natural world and invite you to follow and support their work.
