Integrating small farms and natural areas with hedgerows and tree lined streams and rivers. This is how food was grown organically in the past in a way that benefited the environment and supported rural farming communities. The enhanced wildlife connectivity of ecosystems provides beneficial plants and pollinators like insects and bats to pollinate crops and manage pests organically while holding and channeling water creating an environment which is highly productive and biodiverse. Areas in Europe, Ireland, the UK, and especially eastern Europe are still like this Large monocultures deplete the soil over time so they become exponentially dependent on fertilizer and pesticides to produce food, they support far fewer people financially, and wipe out biodiversity severely damaging the environment.
