Celebrating over 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Germany, bilateral ties have continually reached new heights. Higher education cooperation stands as a crucial component of this close relationship. Throughout its 117-year history, Tongji University has consistently upheld its tradition of collaboration with Germany, pioneering several innovative models for Sino-German higher education cooperation. These efforts have been recognized in key government consultations and documents such as the Sino-German Cooperation Action Plan: Shaping Innovation. Today, Tongji University maintains cooperative relationships with more than 80 German universities, along with signing agreements with renowned German companies like Siemens, Volkswagen, Bayer, Schaeffler, and Porsche. These collaborations span nearly all academic disciplines within the university. During the 13th Five-Year Plan, Tongji University sent an average of around 1,000 faculty and students to Germany for exchanges annually. Additionally, it welcomed over 1,000 German students (constituting 1/7 of all German students studying in China), making it one of the top destinations for German students seeking education abroad. As we stand at a new historical juncture, let us continue to leverage the stability, constructive spirit, and forward-thinking nature of China-Germany relations. This not only benefits our respective peoples but also contributes significantly to global peace and prosperity. —German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to Tongji University on 14 April 2024 marks a milestone in our enduring partnership. 🇨🇳🤝🇩🇪 Video Source: 同济大学微信公众号 #Tongji #Germany #China #collabration

A recent study by the Japan Association of National Universities #JANU reveals mixed success in the #Internationalization of #NationalUniversities. While goals for Japanese students studying abroad and the number of English-taught courses have been met, the target of having 10% international students remains unachieved, with figures hovering between 7-8%. 🌍📉 Additionally, the number of foreign faculty members reached 6.5% in 2018, slightly over the 6.4% target, but full-time foreign faculty numbers have not met expectations, peaking at 5.8%. Hopefully, the current push for more inbound and outbound mobility will have an impact ... 🏫🌐 The report is available at JANU's website: https://lnkd.in/gxsyuses #Japan #JapaneseHigherEducation #HigherEducation #Internationalization #InternationalExchange
