Our thoughts and prayers are with all those directly affected, including the crew, by the tragic Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, and the prospective repercussions that extend beyond the immediate event. Considered the most serious collision in the US since the 1980 Tampa Skyway Bridge disaster, the collision of a 32,000-ton ship holding approximately 4,900 containers, MV Dali, and a prestigious bridge belonging to the port of Baltimore, has shaken the shipping industry at large. Whilst it’s crucial that we remain open minded and don't intensely speculate as to the direct causes at such early stages of investigation, this event is undoubtedly a wake-up call for the maritime industry on many fronts, namely a reminder of the importance of safety measures and the need for thorough investigations to prevent such incidents; a shipping expert told the BBC that the crash could have been caused by engine failure, steering failure or generator blackout. Accreditation to BBC News for the image annotation used in this post, showing the sequence of events as the vessel suffers loss of power and propulsion control before colliding. Again, our thoughts are with the crew and the families affected. Let this event be a pivotal turning point for positive change within the industry!

In Texas, it is generally legal to make a right turn on a red light, provided specific conditions are met. According to Texas Transportation Code § 544.007, a driver facing a steady red signal may make a right turn after coming to a complete stop and yielding the right-of-way to any vehicle or pedestrian within the intersection or approaching the intersection. However, this rule does not apply if a sign is posted prohibiting a right turn on a red light. Additionally, some cities in Texas may have local ordinances prohibiting right turns on red lights at specific intersections. What purpose to these California signs serve? From a human factors point of view putting the signs everywhere seems to desensitize people to important warnings. I remember in response to this high grade crossing accident (Bus got stuck on tracks) https://lnkd.in/dcYY7x-B, the knee-jerk political reaction was to post warning signs at all “not so high” grade crossings. The counter argument was desensitizing bus and truck drivers to warning signs.

A very unfortunate accident shook the marine world and the busy port of Baltimore in the early hours of 26th March . A lot has been shared and circulated since the container ship Dali registered with a highly proficient flag state of Singapore struck the Francis scott key bridge . As the details unfold , it is heartening to note that the vessel’s crew did everything to alert the Maryland authorities as soon as the breakdown happened and an early Mayday flashed by the bridge team, could help stop the crossflow traffic on the bridge and save many lives . Governor of Maryland and President Biden have both, acknowledged the quick response of the navigating crew and the assisting pilots for their response that saved many lives. The investigation agencies shall certainly deliver the actual reasons for the total blackout/propulsion failure etc but the event as witnessed can cause nerve reckoning chilling spikes through the spine when imagining being part of the event . The only respite during such situations can come from the engines responding full astern and the capability of anchors to hold such huge momentums resulting at a prevailing speed over 8.5 kts . To have got everything going wrong just less than 1 minute before the impact , the industry shall appreciate to establish a need to induct FMEA , Power management systems and Redundancy/consequences analyses on large /high momentum vessels negotiating through restricted waters . Three container vessels with pilots on board and colliding in harbour/ port limits with in last 30 days, certainly needs to be reviewed for operational/technical management in collaboration with the HSE protocols . # Marine Industry # Shipowners# shipmanagement # DGS # IACS # synergy Marine https://shorturl.at/aLVZ9

But what is his point? Trump: " So I said, let me ask you a question and he said, nobody ever asked this question and it must be because of MIT, my relationship to MIT. Very smart. He goes, I say, what would happen if the boat sank from its weight? And you're in the boat and you have this tremendously powerful battery and the battery is now underwater and there's a shark that's approximately 10 yards over there, by the way, a lot of shark attacks lately, do you notice that a lot of shark? I watched some guys justifying it today. Well, they weren't really that angry. They bit off the young lady's leg because of the fact that they were, they were not hungry, but they misunderstood what who she was? These people are. He said there's no problem with sharks. They just didn't really understand a young woman swimming now. It really got decimated and other people do a lot of shark attacks. So I said, so there's a shark 10 yards away from the boat, 10 yards or here, do I get electrocuted if the boat is sinking? Water goes over the battery, the boat is sinking. Do I stay on top of the boat and get electrocuted or do I jump over by the shark and not get electrocuted? Because I will tell you he didn't know the answer. He said, you know, nobody's ever asked me that question. I said, I think it's a good question. I think there's a lot of electric current coming through that water. But you know what I'd do if there was a shark or you get electrocuted, I'll take electrocution every single time"
