What an honour it was to celebrate 45 incredible years of Student Legal Assistance! For decades, SLA has made an immeasurable impact on the Calgary community, providing pro bono legal support to low-income residents. It was wonderful to reconnect with familiar and new faces who have been instrumental in shaping SLA’s journey toward more accessible legal services. SLA holds a special place in our hearts, as many of our Alberta lawyers first experienced family law there as students. Today, several members of our team continue to give back through volunteering and mentoring the next generation of legal professionals. We are proud to have sponsored this milestone event and remain committed to supporting SLA’s invaluable work for years to come! #AccesstoJustice #ProBono #AnniversaryCelebration #FamilyLaw Camille Boyer Marcus M. Most of Northern California is a legal aid desert, but UC Law SF’s Summer Fellowship Program is helping bridge the gap. Law students work with legal organizations and tribal courts in California’s rural northern counties to support underserved communities. This year’s fellows included John De La Cruz ’25 and Jacob Rivera ’26, who helped clients fight evictions and advocated for tribal families. https://lnkd.in/g64xESPF #uclawsf

Community Christian Legal Aid Receives Texas Bar Foundation Grant to Support Low-Income Families with Essential Will Services The Woodlands, Texas (November 11, 2024) – Community Christian Legal Aid (CCLA), a nonprofit providing vital legal services to low-income individuals in the Greater Houston area, is honored to announce a generous grant from the Texas Bar Foundation to fund the Will-A-Thon Project. This initiative aims to offer low-income families access to basic will packages through dedicated volunteer attorneys, ensuring peace of mind and essential legal protections for those in our community unable to afford an attorney. The Will-A-Thon Project will allow CCLA to provide these will services free of charge, covering basic estate planning needs and delivering training for volunteer attorneys who contribute their time and expertise. This support is invaluable in helping families secure their legacies and avoid potential legal challenges in the future. “We are deeply grateful to the Texas Bar Foundation for their generous support of our Will-A-Thon Project,” said Deborah Hubbs, President of Community Christian Legal Aid. “This grant will help us provide legal services for low-income families to help them avoid the costly legal expense of probate. This grant also provides the opportunity for lawyers in our community to incorporate pro bono work in their legal practice.” Since 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $28 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably-funded bar foundation. Founded in 2019, CCLA’s mission is bringing justice to our community through civil legal services as a way of demonstrating Christ’s love. CCLA offers free consultations for those in need, covering areas like family law, guardianship, kinship adoption, and estate planning. Services are available to individuals earning up to 250% of the federal poverty level, ensuring that legal support is accessible to those who may face financial barriers. For more information or to support CCLA’s mission, please visit our website at www.cclegalaid.org
