It’s about leaving a legacy that uplifts communities, creates opportunities, and showcases the incredible talent and creativity within the Indigenous business space. Nature tested our community 🌀 Our team launched an exciting new initiative - the Community Ambassador Program (CAP). The first event was meant to set the tone for everything we believed in: 🎯Build trust among startup founders. 🎯Transform casual connections into meaningful collaborations. But Hong Kong had other plans. The kickoff plan? A Friday evening bike ride followed by happy hour networking - perfect for busy founders to unwind and connect. Weeks of preparation, partnership with LocoBike secured, route and venue confirmed, ambassadors Felix Cheung Andrew Li ready to go... Then came the weather forecast: A typhoon heading straight for Hong Kong. 🌧️ The team's spirits dampened. Should we postpone? Startup founders had cleared their busy schedules. Partners were counting on us. The perfect Friday evening slot would be lost. We made a bold decision: wait until 2 hours before the event to make the final call. The sky watched us, and we watched back. ⌛ What followed was magical: Founders from different sectors cycling together. Visitors from Canada and US joining unexpectedly. Stories and laughter shared over drinks. Honest feedback flowing freely. That evening taught me something valuable: Sometimes the best community moments happen when you're willing to weather the storm (literally!) Today, this event became the cornerstone of our community building efforts. It showed us that when founders let their guard down, real connections flourish. Six months ago, it was just a dream. Now, it's a reality. With roots in Canada and a strong presence in South Africa, we knew it was time to dive into the vibrant South African business and entrepreneurship scene. Alongside our incredible partners, Suitable Focus and Hillsdon Consulting, we've crafted an event series that breaks the mold—a refreshing blend of networking, learning, and connection. Walking into the esteemed AfricaWorks co-working space, we saw unfamiliar yet eager faces from diverse sectors and backgrounds converging. Climate Tech leaders like Namrata Z. chatted with UCT SWEEP student reps like Arista Jagath, while business owners like Natasha Scholtz mingled and connected with the many other business leaders in attendance. The networking buzz was palpable, and we’re honored to have sparked such meaningful connections. But that was just the beginning. The Business #Showcase exemplified our mission to bridge enablers with difference-makers. Incubators, accelerators, and ecosystem builders like UVU Africa and Founders Factory Africa showcased their support structures, while startups and SMEs like Cape Locavore and Memeza Shout Community Safety highlighted their impactful work.
