Despite a gap of 8,755 miles (14,000+ km) and an 18-hour time difference, the Construction Safety Research Alliance and Safety and Health Innovation Network (SHINe) teams are joining forces to tackle one of the most exciting challenges in modern safety: decluttering. Why decluttering? Simple. Over time, we keep adding layers to our safety processes—policies, procedures, forms—but somehow, nothing ever seems to be taken away. The result? Clutter that takes time and resources away from the activities that are most impactful. What if we could define what makes something “clutter,” trace its origins, diagnose it with precision, and—here’s the kicker—experimentally test what happens when we remove it? This project will span vast geographical boundaries and set the course for meaningful collaboration between the CSRA and SHINe for years to come. I am proud to be working with Helen Lingard, Payam Pirzadeh, Rita Peihua Zhang, Fred Sherratt, and Yaqoob Raheemy on this project!
