Get an efficiency boost for the wheel production. The entire set-up process for a fully equipped wheel production line (> 8 machines) could previously take up to 120 minutes for a new wheel assembly combination incl. testing. Through centralized and production-independent data input and machine learning, the new Schenck ONE application "Wheel & Tire" can reduce the set-up time by up to 75% while using the full range of functions. The reduced set-up time means less effort within the production process and enables a more productive and qualitative work. I had the opportunity to drive the MAN eTGX with a loaded trailer, it's also available as a TGS, both can be configured as a tractor or 2 / 3 axle rigid. The NMC batteries come in 89kWh packs,(weighing around 800kgs each) from the lowest with 3 packs up to 6 packs rated at 480kWh (usable). Interestingly the cell chemistry development is at MAN Munich, Cell production with our old friends CATL at their Erfurt centre and the packaging is at MAN Nuremberg. Charging and infrastructure is with 'partners' with well known players such as ABB and Heliox / Siemens. Perhaps one of most important issues that I continue to chat about to manufacturers is the chassis charging positions. Currently I am not aware of any specific directive regarding CCS positions. MAN are offering 4 possible CCS charging positions on rigids and 2 on tractor units, and one on MCS as per CharIn standards.As far as range is concerned according to MAN with intelligent use of top-up breaks the trucks can cover up to 800kms. As an example MAN showed a map used by their mobility team with a 19t 4x2 rigid Box body with 50% payload and 5 batteries covering a mixture of city and on highway could doing 740 kms. Range is extremely subjective, in fact you could argue it's subjective on diesels although I think we all have a ball park figure for certain long haul operations. Basically we are still learning, no- one has all the answers but we are at the point that electric trucks are here and can do a days work effectively, getting the economics and Infrastructure right is critical, as this will determine the success of electric trucks NOT the trucks alone !!!
