Seems I was quoted in another article. Not mentioned in there is the fact that this risk is present for any truck with an ELD system installed, even if it does not have active service! Overall this is really about embedded systems, but most embedded systems are tied to installation at a permanent location, whereas trucks go everywhere, and so are far more vulnerable. #transport #trucking

Great to talk with John Germain who has led OT security for several companies. Are you dealing with OT Security? I am willing to bet that this will be the best 30 minutes of your day by listening to his expertise. So tomorrow, give it a listen.
Episode 171 of CISO Stories featuring John Germain, CEO, Security Moments available now! Hosted by Todd Fitzgerald, Best-Selling Author of CISO Compass and VP, Cybersecurity Strategy, Cybersecurity Collaborative For manufacturing companies, technology has taken over a good deal of the day-to-day operations occurring on the manufacturing floor. Things like robotics, CNC machines and automated inventory management. There are even systems that track what tools are used, by whom and for how long. This technology often works outside of or flies under the radar of traditional IT processes. For critical infrastructure, we are hooking up legacy systems to larger networks. Industrial control systems, that were never designed to be attached to the Internet, are now exposed to a wide array of new threats and attacks. Aside from those risks, digital sensors can be attached to almost anything these days, making everything "smart". And with the ability for sensors to also be controllers the risks levels are rising quickly. A recent blog entry by BlackBerry https://lnkd.in/e4_96r2Y sheds light on the company’s observations from the CES 2024 tech event, focusing on its collaboration with MIH | Mobility in Harmony, VicOne, and other ecosystem partners. The post details how MIH leverages BlackBerry IVY’s connected vehicle data platform and machine learning (ML) to monitor fleet performance, health status, and battery conditions. Additionally, by combining unique security insights with edge computing and ML techniques, VicOne assists OEMs or fleet operators in detecting malicious attacks, not just suspicious anomalies. This prevents false alarms that could trigger vehicle recalls, causing financial losses, or misinterpretations of driving behavior that could affect performance evaluations or insurance costs. https://lnkd.in/ePuq2wBR
