In a thought-provoking report published recently Booz Allen Hamilton explores 10 critical emerging technology ecosystems set to revolutionize defense and national security over the next 1-3 years. I highly recommend it as a valuable resource for anyone working on dual use technology R&D, incubation, acceleration, commercialization, and transition into DOD programs. The dual-use technologies identified in the report range from #AI accelerator chips and #autonomousswarms to post-quantum #cryptography and #space domain awareness, were identified through a rigorous methodology involving public DOD reports, expert consultations, and quantitative evaluations. The report delves into AI chips accelerating #ML computations, alternative #navigation for GPS-denied environments, autonomous drone swarms, generative AI for software development, high-density #energy storage, #hypersonic vehicles, multimodal AI for data fusion, counter-UAS systems, quantum-resistant cryptography, and space situational awareness. Each technology is analyzed for its potential impact, market growth, and emerging innovators. The DOD’s intense interest in bringing these technologies into its programs, systems, and operations presents a huge opportunity for tech companies working in these verticals to collaborate with the DOD and align their innovations with national security imperatives. The report encourages exploring partnerships with DOD innovation hubs, tailoring dual-use products for defense needs, and collectively driving the responsible adoption of these critical technologies to maintain strategic advantage and ensure a safer future. If you are a tech company curious about how to engage the DOD successfully, I highly recommend FedTech as your go-to source of expertise. Kudos to BAH for sharing these valuable insights publicly ( and h/t to Johan Restrepo for flagging this report for me.) #technology #natsec #defense #dualuse #entreprensurship #partnership #geopolitics #innovation #techtransfer

Un-jammable quantum tech takes flight to boost UK’s resilience In a commercial world-first, quantum navigation technology developed in the UK, supported through UKRI funding, was successfully tested in flight. In a first-of-its-kind achievement, the UK has successfully completed commercial flight trials of advanced quantum-based navigation systems that cannot be jammed or spoofed by hostile actors. Global positioning system (GPS) jamming is currently relatively rare and does not directly impact an aircraft’s flight path. However, new quantum-based positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) systems are set to be part of a larger solution to providing a resilient navigation that complements space-based navigation and timing systems. This could help ensure that critical transport systems and infrastructure can operate without disruption. Infleqtion, a quantum technology firm, in collaboration with aerospace companies BAE Systems and QinetiQ, completed the trials at Ministry of Defence Boscombe Down in Wiltshire. Science Minister Andrew Griffith was aboard the final test flight on 9 May 2024. These tests are the first time that this sort of ground-breaking technology has been tested in the UK on an aircraft in flight. They are also the first such flights worldwide that have been publicly acknowledged. Funding Led by Infleqtion and in collaboration with industry and academic partners, this project has received funding of nearly £8 million from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), delivered by Innovate UK. This includes funding through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund and more recently the UKRI Technology Missions Fund. This successful project will in turn be built upon the further £2.5 billion of funding that was announced to enable the national quantum strategy and the National Quantum Technologies Programme, to continue for a further 10 years https://buff.ly/44RnD40 #funding #investing #fintech #technology #sustainability #growth #cybersecurity #environment #food #automation #automotive #recycling #nutrition #medicine #robotics #farming #augmentedreality #neuroscience #grants #ukgrants #startupgrants #businessgrants #ukgovernmentgrant #sme #smegrant #businessfunding #smefunding #technologygrant #innovationgrant #capti #captiinnovation #gamechanging #gamechanginginnovation #disruptiveinnovation #smartgrant #ai #manufacturing #sustainable #innovation #telecoms #semiconductors #business #IUK #InnovateUK #SmartGrant #InnovateUKfunding

I'm thrilled to share that our latest research paper, titled "𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐩: 𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫-𝐭𝐡𝐞-𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧-𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐲-𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 6𝐆 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬", has been accepted by the 𝐈𝐄𝐄𝐄 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬. Our paper proposes a two-fold Federated Learning (FL) scheme, FedShip, to enhance privacy, energy efficiency (EE), and communication efficiency in future 6G maritime networks. FedShip utilizes Over-the-Air computation (AirComp) principles to combine local models accurately and efficiently. Using real data on fuel consumption from multiple cargo ships, we demonstrated that FL significantly improves fuel prediction accuracy (95.5% relative to baselines) while ensuring data privacy. Additionally, AirComp shows low computation error and significant EE and spectrum efficiency improvements, especially in dense 6G scenarios. A huge thank you to my co-authors and collaborators from the Research Team of Ports Management and Shipping, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens for their invaluable contributions and support: Sotirios Spantideas, Menelaos Zetas, Nikolaos Nomikos and Panagiotis Trakadas 🤜🤛 Early paper version at IEEE Xplore: https://lnkd.in/dyV-A5rR #Maritime #6G #SmartShipping #FederatedLearning #Privacy #IEEE #IntelligentTransportation

🔊 This weekend's fun-to-read comes from US NATIONAL TRAINING & SIMULATION ASSOCIATION, which is an affiliate of the National Defense Industrial Association - (NDIA). 📜 "NATIONAL TRAINING & SIMULATION ASSOCIATION developed and has updated (2024) A “Primer on Modeling and Simulation”. This document describes the basic tenets of modeling and simulation, along with its applications to everyday life. It is intended as an educational tool on the benefits and applications of modeling and simulation to support national security, infrastructure, and defense." 🔍 Last words from the Primer "The computer in your cell phone today is a million times cheaper, a thousand times more powerful, and about a hundred thousand times smaller than the computer built at MIT in 1965. With investment in future M&S activities, applications will become increasingly powerful in the immediate and long-term future and continue to revolutionize and transform the world in which we learn, train, analyze, build, and live." 🙋♂️ Have fun reading! #simulation #modeling #training #simbt #NTSA #NDIA
