🚨 An Attack on Justice: Stand with Barrister Tamfu Richard 🚨 Yesterday, Barrister Tamfu Richard, a fervent human rights defender, was brutally attacked by gendarmes in Cameroon. This is not just an attack on one man; it is an attack on the rule of law, on every person who believes in justice, and on the very principles that hold our society together. When those who protect the rights of the voiceless are silenced with violence, we must ask ourselves: Who will defend us? Who will protect the principles of justice and human dignity? This is not an isolated incident. Time and again, we have seen lawyers—those who uphold the pillars of justice—facing brutality, harassment, and intimidation. These actions are aimed at silencing those who dare to fight for the voiceless, and we cannot allow that to happen. To my fellow lawyers, this is a call to stand unwavering. We cannot be intimidated, we cannot back down. We must continue to defend not only our clients but the very concept of justice in Cameroon. To the Cameroonian people, remember that when lawyers are attacked, it is not just the legal profession that suffers—it is the entire society. Today it is a lawyer; tomorrow it could be anyone else. I urge everyone—lawyers, human rights advocates, civil society organizations, and every Cameroonian citizen—to condemn this attack and demand accountability. We must push for reform, insist on justice, and ensure that those responsible are held to account. The fight for justice is not easy, but it is necessary. Stand with us. Stand for Barrister Tamfu. Stand for justice. The time for action is now. ✊🏿 #JusticeForTamfu #HumanRights #StandForJustice #Cameroon #LawyersForChange #AmnestyInternational #HumanRightsWatch #UNHumanRights #CameroonBarAssociation #DefendTheDefenders

This is such a proud moment! 👏👏👏👏 My Company, Sceptre and Prima is launching not one, but two unique (in my opinion) books on the Rights of Children in Nigeria. The first book, 'THE COMPENDIUM OF LEGAL INSTRUMENTS ON CHILDREN'S RIGHTS IN NIGERIA' offers reliable insights into international, regional, and national laws, providing practitioners and duty bearers with a definitive reference point. The second book, 'MY RIGHTS' is a child-friendly handbook that empowers children all over Nigeria with knowledge of the rights that protect and ensure their wellbeing. Both books contain the efforts of extensive, rigorous and in-depth research of its author, Principal Consultant of Sceptre and Prima, Chisom Oke-Chinda. Truly, it is one of a kind, the first of many.
🎉🎉🎉🎉! Announcement Sceptre and Prima is thrilled to announce the launch of two significant resources on the Rights of Children in Nigeria, authored by our Principal Consultant, Chisom Oke-Chinda: 1. Compendium of Legal Instruments on Children's Rights in Nigeria 2. 'My Rights' (A Child-Friendly Handbook) We invite you to join us for the launch event. Situated in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, the Constitutional Court of South Africa is a deeply symbolic and significant site. It is the highest court in the country, when it comes to the interpretation, protection, and enforcement of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. The Constitution itself was approved by the Constitutional Court on the 4th of December 1996, and took effect on the 4th of February 1997. The structure and architecture of the Constitutional Court building, differs from the traditional architectural style that one would associate most Courts with. The design of the Constitutional Court was premised on the importance of representing – both architecturally and visually – the openness and transparency of the country’s new Constitution. The Constitutional Court’s logo depicts people sheltering under a canopy of branches - a representation of the Constitution's protective role, and a reference to a theme that runs though the Court - that of justice under a tree, or lekgotla. As Justice Albie Sachs - who was deeply involved in the development of the logo and the design of the new building - told a group on a tour of Constitution Hill: "The tree protects the people, and they look after the tree. Besides, in South Africa, justice has traditionally taken place under a tree." The notion of transparency is evident in the Court’s low-lying ribbon of glass windows, which affords citizens a view of the Court, while also reminding judges of their responsibility to all South Africans. #castelliattorneys #attorneys #lawyer #attorney #lawfirm #legalpractice

The right to a fair hearing is one of the most important fundamental human rights available to a person. It is basically the right of any/every party in a suit to be accorded the right and opportunity to be heard and to have the opportunity to respond to allegations made against them. This right mandates the court to be unbiased and independent. It also extends to the right of an individual to a lawyer (free of charge) so that that individual will properly be heard in court, especially in a criminal matter. This right is provided for in S. 36 of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, 1999(as amended). It is called The Sixth Amendment right in the United States. It is the provisions of Article 10 of the United Nations Declaration on Human and People’s Rights and Article 7 of the African Charter. These laws are all saying one thing; that every human should have an unalloyed right (to speak) & be heard at any point in time. #legaladvice #legalprinciple #attorney
