The latest episode of Housing After Dark out now featuring Ruby B. of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative on philanthropy's role in fighting our housing crisis. Philanthropy isn't going to solve all our problems but it is absolutely critical to push us forward for two big reasons. First, philanthropy has the role to convene housers across entrenched silos and sectors, whether that be advocates, academia, practitioners, developers, the banks or more. Second, philanthropy can provide the R&D capital necessary to help institutions, like banks or government, know the difference between the real and perceived risk of investments. Tune in to hear Ruby speak powerfully about the risk embracing power of philanthropy. This is one of the few sectors where failure is a good sign. https://bit.ly/3Z3E64f

🌟 Is Philanthropy Facing a 2016 Déjà Vu? Not So Fast... Given the result of the U.S. presidential election, many in the nonprofit world are bracing for challenges reminiscent of 2016. But are we really repeating history, or are today’s dynamics fundamentally different? Dimple Abichandani thoughtfully argues that, while philanthropy can lean on lessons from the past, we need to significantly to ramp up our efforts in this time of polycrisis. "Moving resources quickly and flexibly will be important but won’t be enough. We will also need to stand up against authoritarianism and fight unprecedented assaults on nonprofits and foundations that stand for justice." While the task is daunting, Dimple reminds us that philanthropy has a set of very consequential choices to make in this moment: 👉 Are we mission organizations or financial organizations? 👉 In urgent times, how can we provide the fullest support? 👉 How will we take risks and act courageously together? 👉 How will we avoid crisis fatigue, and take care of ourselves and each other? It’s clear: today’s challenges demand more than just looking to the past; they require new strategies for an evolving world. Check out the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gvenURPk

“While the task is daunting, Dimple reminds us that philanthropy has a set of very consequential choices to make in this moment: 👉 Are we mission organizations or financial organizations? 👉 In urgent times, how can we provide the fullest support? 👉 How will we take risks and act courageously together? 👉 How will we avoid crisis fatigue, and take care of ourselves and each other?” I appreciate the invitation to actively spend time with these questions as individual leaders and in/with community. Thank you Dimple Abichandani for this piece! A few more come to mind for me: 👉 How do we get comfortable with not knowing and naming that? 👉 What does being still, listening, and learning look like in this season? 👉 How will we offer ourselves and each other grace? 👉 What does accountability look like? What does winning look like? Who gets to define and decide?

Hey, nonprofit leaders! 🗳️ This election season, your vote has the power to shape the future for your organization. Here’s why it matters: 1) Tax Deduction Laws: Future changes could impact donor incentives, affecting fundraising goals. 2) Privacy Regulations: New laws might require adjustments to how you manage donor data. 3) Grant Requirements: Extra red tape? Potential changes may affect access to crucial funding. 4) Advocacy Restrictions: These could limit your voice on issues that impact your mission. Voting isn’t just a civic duty—it’s a strategic move to protect and advance your nonprofit’s impact. Let’s make sure the changes coming are ones that benefit your work! #NonprofitLeadership #DonorEngagement #Philanthropy #NonprofitMarketing #SocialImpact #FundraisingTips #DevelopmentDirector #Voting #2024Election
