Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Japanese organization Nihon Hidankyo - As we see the horror of the escalating war unravelling in the Middle East and the looming atomic threat that is part of the nearly three years of conflict between Russia and Ukraine the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Japanese organization Nihon Hidankyo is a reminder that we must avoid the repetition of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and that we have managed to avoid that such weapons be used in war for nearly 80 years. We must all continue contributing individually and collectively to reaching peace. #givepeaceachance

This is bad for the US. The West in in a dilemma in West Africa. States like Niger are controlled by anti-Western militaries who see alliances with Russia to stay in power. Even in Nigeria I hear support for Wagner Group from people who I would consider well-educated and of a liberal bent. When people's physical security is under assault, they will turn to whomever they thinkg can provide them with safety, regardless of the political implications. Right now, the West, which has failed to provide that security and, indeed, historically contributed to the exploitation of those countries, is losing its mind share with them. We need a better policy to West Africa (all of Africa) than what we are offering today. Or we will lose our relationships in Africa to Russia and China. #foreignpolicy #africa #niger #russia Atlantic Council Council on Foreign Relations Center for a New American Security (CNAS) RAND The Brookings Institution Hudson Institute American Enterprise Institute Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) United States Department of Defense U.S. Department of State #foreignpolicy #nationalsecurity The White House National Security Council, The White House William Collins J. Satellite Diplomacy! Our communication systems and IT systems are very dependent on the satellites. So it is important to understand the Satellite System before understanding Satellite Diplomacy. A satellite constellation system consists of multiple satellites working together in a coordinated manner to provide comprehensive coverage and enhance communication capabilities. Unlike single satellites that offer limited coverage, constellations involve deploying multiple satellites in specific orbits, allowing for continuous global or regional service. This system improves data redundancy, reduces latency, and ensures persistent monitoring.

Discover peer-reviewed insights and research trends with a JPH open access article, free to read and share! If you're interested in articles about Fiji, Nuclear Weapons, Colonialism here's your opportunity to dive into the latest research and be at the forefront of knowledge. Dimity Hawkins' ‘We will not Relax our Efforts’: The Anti-Nuclear Stance of Civil Society and Government in Post-Independence Fiji, https://buff.ly/3BLbQtA. ABSTRACT: In the years immediately following independence, Fiji took advantage of its position as the first Pacific Island country in the United Nations to highlight the harms of French nuclear testing. Building on the outspoken efforts of Fijian civil society that reflected deep concerns in the region, the government of Prime Minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara took on an increasingly activist role in the international arena around the testing of nuclear weapons in the Pacific. Fiji’s advocacy over this time represented an important moment in Pacific Way politics, tying nuclear resistance to self-determination struggles. Anti-nuclear sentiment at both a community and political level positioned Pacific agency and perspectives in this global discourse. Revisiting the speeches and diplomatic efforts of the Fijian government alongside the advocacy and activities of the ATOM group offers lessons on the importance of collaborative politics in the face of transboundary harms and regional challenges. #Fiji #NuclearWeapons #NuclearColonialism #NuclearResistence #CivilSociety #PacificHistory #PacificIslands #History #Publication #OpenAccessWeek2024 #OAWeek #LongRead #Publication #Community #MotivationMonday

The NCAFP convened a trilateral Track II conference in early May with scholars and former officials from the U.S., China, and South Korea. Our latest report by Susan Thornton and Juliet Lee, "The Korean Peninsula and Regional Security: Perspectives from the U.S., China, and South Korea," highlights the policy recommendations and conclusions from the dialogue. How can these three parties coordinate on policy to manage geopolitical tensions? How can they address the growing nuclear threat? What entry points are there for re-engagement with the DPRK? For answers to these questions, read our report! https://lnkd.in/e4UiimVQ
