#SpiritualCareWeek is a time to recognize our chaplains! A chaplain is part of the healthcare team focusing on spiritual needs amid medical needs. We ensure patients and families can attend to the religious rituals that are important to them. We also talk through spiritual or existential concerns to help patients cope during their hospital stay and when they leave. This can look different from family to family, such as providing a prayer rug, music, religious texts, or completing a hot work permit for a smudging practice. Spiritual healthcare involves seeing the patient as a whole person, upholding their beliefs, experiences, and addressing meaning and hope. We are there as you start asking “why” questions – “Why me?” “Why now?” “Why is this happening?” “Why do I feel this way?” We don’t typically give answers but encourage patients to investigate their own beliefs. We stand as a companion to support the patient and families’ journey to understand and find peace with their situation.

Self-Care VS. Spiritual Care In clinical pastoral education (CPE), we quickly understand the importance of both self-care and spiritual care in the lives of our chaplains, staff, and the patients whom we serve. Inadequate self-care not only affects the chaplain but also impacts the well-being of the staff and patients. As part of self-care, it is crucial to pay attention to our emotions, intuitions, and physical needs. However, we must also prioritize spiritual care, considering that we are integral members of the spiritual care team. Throughout my day, I strive to check in with my spirit, reflecting on the state of my soul and examining whether I've made time to connect with the Divine or if I'm attempting to provide spiritual care alone. An effective chaplain not only prioritizes self-care but also seeks time in the presence of the Divine. By inviting God to be present, the care I provide becomes unlimited, impacting not only the lives of the staff and patients I serve but also my own life as well.

How Does Helping Others Heal Ourselves? Craig Chong and Evan Leong explore the transformative power of helping others as a pathway to personal healing. They delve into the dynamics of trust and vulnerability, discussing how the act of advising and supporting others can lead to mutual understanding and self-repair. This conversation sheds light on the profound impact of being seen, heard, and valued, both in personal and professional contexts. By helping others, individuals not only contribute to healing but also embark on their own journey of self-discovery and recovery, thereby creating a reciprocal cycle of growth and healing. #GGRClips #GreaterGoodRadio #ConnectLearnHealGrow #InspirationalInterviews #Hawaii #Relationships #PositiveImpact #AlohaSpirit #CraigChong #HealingThroughHelping #PersonalGrowth #CraigChong #Vulnerability #TrustedAdvisor Evan Leong Craig Chong WATCH the FULL VIDEO 👉 https://lnkd.in/gTwxC_Cq

"...the third wave of biblical counseling is relatively recent, although it was present in the early church. It is enlisting, equipping, and mobilizing the body of the church to be the frontline caregivers, a preventative force in the care of souls. The “ground troops” of biblical soul care would be the everyday believer equipped in basic soul care skills and tools. Imagine a church not just with a counseling department but filled with wise soul care providers. This third wave is like a revival of a sleeping giant (the whole body of the church). It’s giving counseling an even broader scope." Read More: https://lnkd.in/gFPprfF4
