#SpiritualCareWeek is a time to recognize our chaplains! A chaplain is part of the healthcare team focusing on spiritual needs amid medical needs. We ensure patients and families can attend to the religious rituals that are important to them. We also talk through spiritual or existential concerns to help patients cope during their hospital stay and when they leave. This can look different from family to family, such as providing a prayer rug, music, religious texts, or completing a hot work permit for a smudging practice. Spiritual healthcare involves seeing the patient as a whole person, upholding their beliefs, experiences, and addressing meaning and hope. We are there as you start asking “why” questions – “Why me?” “Why now?” “Why is this happening?” “Why do I feel this way?” We don’t typically give answers but encourage patients to investigate their own beliefs. We stand as a companion to support the patient and families’ journey to understand and find peace with their situation.

"...the third wave of biblical counseling is relatively recent, although it was present in the early church. It is enlisting, equipping, and mobilizing the body of the church to be the frontline caregivers, a preventative force in the care of souls. The “ground troops” of biblical soul care would be the everyday believer equipped in basic soul care skills and tools. Imagine a church not just with a counseling department but filled with wise soul care providers. This third wave is like a revival of a sleeping giant (the whole body of the church). It’s giving counseling an even broader scope." Read More: https://lnkd.in/gFPprfF4

A society is only as strong as its family units. –Families are fundamental in shaping individuals’ values, behaviors, and sense of belonging. -Today, we explore the vital link between family health and societal well-being, addressing why healing our families is key to building a resilient society.

Balancing Faith & Healthcare: A Christian's Dilemma in the Medical Field As healthcare professionals of faith, we often face tough ethical decisions, especially when controversial medical procedures are involved. The challenge of aligning our values with professional obligations can lead to burnout, emotional exhaustion, and spiritual disconnection. But how can we integrate our faith into our work, even when policies or practices conflict with our beliefs? Here’s how we can navigate this: 1. Stay rooted in faith – Prioritize time for spiritual growth despite the demanding schedules. “But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3) 2. Seek mentorship – Find a mentor who understands both healthcare and Christian values. “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors, there is safety.” (Proverbs 11:14) 3. Holistic care – Make a lasting impact by integrating faith into your practice, addressing not just physical but also spiritual well-being. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” (3 John 1:2) Let’s advance in our careers while honoring our Christian values. Together, we can create a healthier, more compassionate world.
