🤝The third annual Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission conference is set to take place in Valencia on 25 - 26 June. This prestigious event, hosted by the European Commission and NetZeroCitiesEU will bring together Mission City mayors, practitioners, and representatives from national and regional authorities to connect and engage on Mission-critical concepts and ideas. 🏙️ The 2024 edition, titled ‘Empowering Cities – the Climate Neutral and #SmartCities Mission in Action,’ will be an invitation-only gathering organised by the European Commission and the Mission Platform. With the EU targeting carbon neutrality for all heating and cooling by 2050, transitioning from natural gas to sustainable solutions is urgent. Did you see our project video launch at POLIS Network Conference 2024 in Stadt Karlsruhe, Land Baden-Württemberg this week? 🇩🇪 Don't worry if you weren't there! It's live on YouTube now! It's still early days in our own REFOCUS project but it was great to see "Supporting SUMPs" high up on the agenda and provoking thoughtful discussion. 🤔 We had the opportunity to hear from others engaged in the field, such as, the SCALE-UP Project that focuses on issues of multi-level governance and about the human resources support, provided by the Fachzentrum Nachhaltige Mobilitätsplanung Hessen (Sustainable Mobility Planning Hessen), to enable regional sustainable mobility planning! Our hosts, Land Baden-Württemberg & speaker Paula Kuss underscored the importance of working as a region to cut CO2 transport emissions by 55% by the year 2030. Their strategy? Ensure municipalities within the region are incentivised to use a transport model that evaluates the effectiveness of their Climate Mobility Plans. Effective and demonstrable CO2 emissions cuts result in an increased funding rate of 25% - the so-called 'climate-bonus'! 🌍 ✅ Stay tuned in 2025 to hear all about our REFOCUS project partners' own examples of effective sustainable mobility planning and good practices to ensure inclusive and data-based decision-making in the next generation of SUMPs. #datadriven #decisionsupporttools #SUMPs #sustainablemobility

🌊 Introducing you to the Manifesto for a #EuropeanOceanPact, an initiative to drive forward a comprehensive agenda for #ocean #sustainability in the next European legislature. 🐠 I am honoured to have contributed as a coordinator and co-author to the elaboration of this proposal hosted by Europe Jacques Delors and the Oceano Azul Foundation. This initiative is supported by a group of 29 stakeholders with deep knowledge and experience in the #EU and ocean #policy. 🌍 The ocean is our planet's life support system and a one of kind provider of services to the EU. The costs and consequences of allowing the degradation of the ocean to continue not only disproportionately exceed those of restoring its health but also fatefully mortgage all current and future benefits and opportunities hailing from it. This is why we urgently need a European Ocean Pact. With the right strategy, the ocean has the potential to become one of the EU’s best ally in delivering on its key environmental, social, geopolitical and economic objectives: "Blue makes attaining green easier".
