Yesterday morning, we received the most inspiring message from one of our Hollard Insurance Youth Employment Service (YES) South Africa students, and I just have to share it with you. When young women join our program to become professional truck drivers, they often feel overwhelmed by the opportunities, filled with self-doubt and uncertainty about whether the programme will deliver on its promises—especially with so many unreliable skills programmes in South Africa. Unesakhe Sibuka is now just three months into her program and is being hosted at InterTown Transport in Cape Town. She shared this heart warming feedback: “Hi Raine, I just wanna tell you that today they gave me a route to drive a big truck—8 tonnes—as their driver wasn’t in today. They trusted me 💃💃💃💃💃 and I didn’t disappoint 💃. I delivered everything across 16 stops and came back with a full load of collections. And it’s the second time! At first, they gave me a bakkie—I’m so proud of myself 🤭.” How can we not feel immense pride in the impact we’re creating as an industry collaboration! On behalf of the Commercial Transport Academy (CTA), I am so proud that we get to do this work every day. Thank you Hollard for your commitment to creating Better Futures, for allocating over 107 YES students to the CTA and entrusting us with this amazing responsibility!
