Picture the scene... The lights are lowered. The music fades. A tide of dry ice rolls gently off the stage. An envelope is produced. The atmosphere is scissile. The room is awash with people, each the warden of their own whole seat but only in need of the edge. The only sound, the barely perceptible fizz of champagne... The seal is broken. The crowd inhales. A name is read out. Your name. The room erupts. Victory. The realm of the practiced "gracious runner-up" face is now the domain of mere mortals. A winner, as the saying goes, is you. But how often do we get to experience such a dream? Well, as it happens, entries are now open for the 10th annual Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce Business Awards. For the mere cost of the time taken to fill in an application, you could be in the running to celebrate the achievements of your business by living out your very own Oscars fantasy. Apply below - why wouldn’t you? https://lnkd.in/e5r-gAqY #StaffsBizAwards #BusinessExcellence

The best way to spread holiday cheer? Singing loud for all to hear! I love watching Elf, but delivering holiday gifts takes more than just reindeer power and i am a high functioning procrastonator when it comes to gifts. This Pride Month, every company wants you to think they're inclusive. But have you ever tried to actually *implement* a DEI program at a company? These folks have, and they're sharing the ups and downs, the wins and pitfalls, the good, the bad, and the rainbow-logo-ugly. The facilitator of this panel is one of my oldest friends, and someone who thinks deeply about diversity, equity, and inclusion every single day. She's a DEI trainer, a CEO, and a thoughtful human being with lived experiences that make this very close to her heart. She's gathered a panel of people who have put in the work to implement DEI programs at their companies and have a wealth of experience in actually making this happen. It's not an easy process, and it's not as simple as making your logo a rainbow for Pride Month or posting a black square in support of Black Lives Matter. It's also not a set-it-and-forget-it project. Learn from those who have been there about how to make the most of the process and implement a program that truly has an impact.
Is your workplace growing stagnant in their DEI efforts? Does your leadership need a lil nudge from their industry peers? Are you personally curious about what these folks have to say about the state of DEI in Colorado? Serving the tea, we've got: - Jill Corbin from Colorado Tourism Office - Heather Disney Dugan from Colorado Parks and Wildlife -Jackie Miller from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) - Philip C. Sneed from Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. - Melissa Akie Wiley from Town of Erie Co-Facilitator: The one, the only-- Parker McMullen Bushman Learn more about this event and buy your tickets today (they're going fast) at www.CrystalEgli.com. (Psst! Bonus points if you invite your boss.)

The Where and When of: To Be (Oneself) Or Not to Be (Oneself) This is my question: Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of scorn and group censorship… Some friends have PM’d me to ask if I’m okay and wonder if I might be oversharing when I post about my feelings, resentments, or past angsts. I think many of these people are still living in a halcyon age where people received royalties and everything was fair and nice… and good. I admit, sharing is cathartic; it helps to get it all out there and have some kind of record of my experiences from my point of view. I’ve held onto these thoughts for 20 years, and staying silent hasn’t done me any real good. And perhaps it’s boring to read, but sorry… there’ll be a cat video for you to laugh at in a microsecond… to help you forget the creeping barrage of your own enslavement… Also, the big question is: am I showing weakness by sharing? Or is it stronger to fight for what you believe? Anyhow, it’s not like I’m going to lose out on any record company work! I’ve been blackballed by major record labels since 2004, YES, 20 years!! What are they going to do, give me no work for another 20 years? I was working hard and collaborating with top people, I had about 5 albums in the top 10, Dido was number 1 and going massive, winning two Brits! I realized in 1999 that a band making a Dido-type sound would be huge, and so I made my plan to find a band and make that happen. In 1999, I found this band—This is the Keane I started working with: https://lnkd.in/eRqspdhh And I thought I could make a Dido-y sound with it, then I pitched the idea to the band. This was my sound, my studio, my synths, my vision. MY IDEA!!! The transition was finished by the end of 2001. But due to lies, broken agreements, and trusting people’s word and handshakes… After they left my studio, they didn’t invite me to the BRITs and ghosted me. Lee and Thompson lawyers and I filed suit against Island Records in 2010. Island Records said they’d try to do better the next time. 20th Anniversary’s release, 48 wrong credits! Even songs on the 2001 CD made here at VibeyStudios by me were credited as ‘Tim’s Demos’. Imagine the INSULT! AND don’t forget, because Keane told everyone they made Hopes and Fears themselves in their garden, they made it look like I was lying… AND I have never been asked to work by a major record company again!!! Blacklisted Due to the lies in 2004, I went from “superstar programmer” to some kind of ‘lying blagger scoundrel’ overnight… My career kind of ended. So, I went independent, building up new acts on my own. I wouldn’t really have minded if they hadn’t done the same thing to me again 20 years later with ENGLISH TEACHER. I’ve made two of Island Records’ biggest UK acts and they stole both from me.
