Glad to hear that the United Nations has declared 2025 as the of International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. 100 years ago scientific breakthroughs led to an entirely new understanding of nature at its fundamental level. Based on this, we are now seeing amazing advances in the fundamental engineering of controlling individual quantum states and their interactions. And this is opening up radically new technological avenues, for example for high-precision measurement processes and new methods for transmitting and processing information. Who is Tomorrow’s Professor Baliga? Professor Baliga, the 2024 Millennium Prize winner, is a key player in the fight against CO2 emissions through his groundbreaking innovations. With an impressive 124 patents in area of transistors, his impact on technology is truly inspiring! I had the opportunity to share a meal with him, along with Markku Ellila, CEO of Technology Academy Finland, and colleagues from Vaisala and Nokia (We are one of TAF partners). This engaging lunch made me reflect on an important question: How can we cultivate both passion and perseverance in young people to study physics, chemistry, and other fundamental sciences? How can we encourage them to persist in technological innovations that will help create a more sustainable world? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic!

Highlights from the Quantum World Congress 2024💡 We’re wrapping up a week filled with quantum science and technology. The Office of Science and Innovation hosted a roundtable discussion with American and Swedish experts, as well as a reception at the Swedish Embassy, providing a forum for dignitaries as well as experts in the field to meet. During the Quantum World Congress, Tomas Andersson provided an insight into Vetenskapsrådet / Swedish Research Council’s work on a draft National Quantum Strategy for Sweden and Jon Wingborg from QSIP – Quantum Sweden Innovation Platform explained the Swedish quantum ecosystem to the international audience.
