In his TEDxAix talk titled "The Myth of Globalisation," Peter Alfandary argues that globalization does not imply a homogenisation of cultures. Instead, he emphasizes the importance of cultural sensitivity and understanding when engaging in international business. He challenges the idea that globalization has created a unified global culture and highlights the significance of respecting cultural differences. Alfandary advocates for enhanced cross-cultural awareness to facilitate effective global communication and collaboration. You can watch the full talk here.

Hon. Mathew Rukikaire in his concluding remarks moved a motion. "Finally, let me make yet another proposal to the Guild Presidents Leadership Academy to consider. I want to propose that, as well as becoming an annual event, this forum should be expanded to become an #EastAfrican Leadership Academy; and that His Excellency Jakaya Kikwete be requested to become the Academy’s #Patron. Further consultations with Kenya and Tanzania would be required with the help of His Excellency Jakaya Kikwete." #GuildLeadersSummit2024
"When we talk about legacy,we not only look at a leaders tangible accomplishments during their time in office but also the values they espoused and their vision of the future. We look at how they shaped a long-termtrajectory of the societies they lead. A good leader does this by, among other things, preparing other good leaders to follow in his or her footsteps." ~ HE. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete. Unity for a Purpose: Embracing African Unity on AU Day. ( #Part2 ) - by Mrs. Erinn Ransom-Ofori Collaborative Political and Social Efforts To achieve true unity, we must also focus on collaborative political and social efforts. This includes strengthening regional economic integration and cooperation through organizations such as the African Union and regional economic communities. Encouraging people-to-people interactions and cultural exchange programs can promote cross-border understanding and unity. Investing in education and creating a shared African identity that transcends national boundaries is essential for fostering long-term unity. Reflecting on Our Role in African Unity I stand by the belief that Africa's potential is infinite. African Unity Day is a day to stir up our will and commitment. To all past and present fellows of the Central Leadership Program (CLP), I challenge you to spend some time today reflecting in your Leadership Learning Journals on how greater African unity can benefit the pillar of society that most interests you, and how you can promote, model, and lead African unity towards the Africa we envision. Let us take inspiration from Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah: "It is in our hands to join our strength, taking sustenance from our diversity, honoring our rich and varied traditions and culture but acting together for the protection and benefit of us all." Gavin Moffat and I have learned that curating is as much about what you leave behind as it is about what you make room for. This relates to the hard work TEDx curators do. Imagine the challenge of sifting through countless ideas, voices, and passions—each one valuable in its own way—yet choosing only those few that will resonate, spark, and inspire an audience. That’s not just curation; it’s an art and a touch of science. But this careful selection process isn’t just for stages and audiences. It’s a powerful approach to living life with purpose. In our lives, curating is about what we choose to release just as much as what we choose to keep. We decide to say “no” to things that weigh us down, to make room for what genuinely adds value and joy. Living by design—not by default for us means intentionally letting go of what no longer serves us to make space for what truly matters, and this includes ideas, possessions, habits, and ways of thinking. Since starting our nomad work lifestyle, we have learned that freedom isn’t in holding on, it’s in letting go. The intentionality that gets put into a TEDx talk, whether it is the curation of it or the delivery, shines a bright light on what we tell anyone who will listen ~ Make room for the extraordinary by ditching the ordinary. The hardest part is sifting through and choosing value over volume. #CurateYourLife #LiveWithIntention #TEDx #nomadlife #nomadcouple #ValueOverVolume

Aspasia: The Unsung Pioneer of Learning, Teaching, and Leadership In ancient Athens—a society where women were largely excluded from public life—Aspasia of Miletus defied the odds. Born around 470 BCE, she became a central figure in Athens' intellectual circles, known for her brilliance in philosophy, rhetoric, and her ability to challenge and inspire even the greatest minds of her time, including Socrates. Aspasia wasn’t just the companion of Pericles, Athens’ most influential statesman—she was a teacher, a mentor, and a leader in her own right. Her home became a gathering place for thinkers, artists, and politicians, fostering some of the most profound discussions in history. Despite the constraints of her era, her influence shaped Athenian culture and philosophy. What makes Aspasia truly remarkable isn’t just her intellect but her courage to lead and teach in a world that didn’t recognize her right to do so. She reminds us that true leadership is about breaking barriers, creating spaces for dialogue, and inspiring others to think and grow. Aspasia’s story challenges us to reflect: Are we creating opportunities for those whose voices are often unheard? Are we, like her, fostering spaces where learning and leadership thrive? #intelligence #thoughtleadership #selfawareness #diversity

Since my return from the #ALP Summit 2 in Hanoi, I've been consistently encountering aspects that resonate with me regarding leadership, and the latest one I've come across is "Ubuntu," which until recently meant little more than an operating system. Ubuntu, roughly translated as "I am because we are," encapsulates the idea that our humanity is intrinsically linked to that of others. This concept, magnificently expressed by Nelson Mandela, transcends borders and cultures, offering invaluable guidance for our leadership. As leaders, Ubuntu calls upon us to recognize the humanity in every individual we encounter. Mandela understood this profoundly when he said, "There is nothing to fear from difference because there is nothing to fear from equality." By embracing diversity and inclusion, we can nurture an environment where every voice is valued, and every person feels seen and heard. Our success is intertwined with that of our team and our community. By empowering others and fostering a sense of shared responsibility, we pave the way for sustainable progress and collective well-being. Moreover, Ubuntu reminds us of the importance of empathy and compassion in our leadership. As Nelson Mandela says "always do the best you can, and maybe you'll never know if that's enough." Does it resonate with you too? Thanks to Calm for sharing the concept! #Ubuntu #Leadership #NelsonMandela #KeepGrowing #AlwaysLearning #GoBeyond Grant Thornton España Grant Thornton International Ltd Photo credits: This image is from Pixabay and was published before July 2017 under the Creative Commons CC0 1.0 Universal Public Domain Dedication license
