I’m delighted to share some exciting news — I’ve been accepted into BUS-D 272: Netherlands: An Innovation Hub, a Spring 2025 course at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business that includes a study tour to Amsterdam and Breda, Netherlands! 🌍 This opportunity blends academic learning with real-world experience, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead. This program is designed to explore why the Netherlands is recognized as a hub for innovation and forward-thinking strategies. From cutting-edge technologies to sustainable business practices, we’ll dive into what makes this region so successful. What makes this experience even more special is the opportunity to collaborate with a business school in the Netherlands. Together, we’ll study global business practices, exchange ideas, and gain a deeper understanding of international business. Beyond the classroom, we’ll immerse ourselves in the vibrant culture and energy of Amsterdam and Breda. The study tour will include visits to innovative business hubs, giving us a firsthand look at how companies operate in this dynamic environment. Exploring these cities, learning from local professionals, and connecting with students from different parts of the world will undoubtedly be a transformative experience. This acceptance feels even more meaningful because of how competitive the selection process was this year. Knowing there was a substantial waitlist of highly qualified candidates makes me feel incredibly honored and grateful to have been chosen. I can’t wait to connect with my colleagues, professor, and the professionals we’ll meet along the way. Opportunities like these remind me why I’m passionate about my studies in marketing and professional sales — they push me to grow, learn, and embrace new challenges. Here’s to making this a truly memorable trip of a lifetime! I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to experience, absorb, and experience something so impactful. #Innovation #GlobalBusiness #Netherlands #StudyAbroad #KelleySchoolOfBusiness #Networking #ProfessionalGrowth

✨ Better to be free than "good". I want to share some reflections based on two experiences that really struck me. In Chile’s international education scene, I’ve observed a Spanish institution that calls itself an "international university" moving with surprising agility. Their strategy? Quickly approach international relations offices, offering "free" training for a bunch of local professors and students. This approach is relentless—always pushing for a fast, last-minute agreement ⏳, then blasting their success on social media 📱, almost as if they’re in a race to close deals with as many Chilean institutions as possible. It reminds me of timeshare sales strategies. This level of haste is unusual in academia, where relationships are typically built on careful trust and reflection. Needless to say, this "goodwill" isn’t free 💸. This institution lacks a solid reputation in its own country and is already under scrutiny from our national quality assurance authorities 🔍 due to hints of questionable degree practices. On a different note, I recently found out that a colleague from a southern university was let go. Nothing unusual there—it happens all the time, especially in international offices of peripheral universities where leadership isn’t always supported by upper management and often faces financial and management challenges. But here’s the twist: the official reason for dismissal was "business needs" (Redundancy or Layoff)—usually code for resource shortages or restructuring. What’s interesting is that the institution soon published an open call to fill the exact same position, revealing that there was never a real "business need". A straightforward case to win in labor court ⚖️, should one decide to go down that path. These two examples make me think about how, too often, behind a facade of kindness and generosity—and in the second case, bonhomie—lie interests that clash with the professional standards we expect from institutions and individuals. This brings to mind some advice I heard recently: "Always be wary of people who make it their job to be good; they are not what they seem to be." Have a great day! 💪

Some links last long. Fascinating meeting with my former co-student (!Yes, we were studying together!) Katrin Pasinli yesterday. We talked a lot about the challenges of international business and intercultural challenges. As it turns out, we both read the same books on these issues, for example, Erin Meyer's "The Culture Map". Katrin agreed to give a guest lecture in my "Intercultural Challenges" class at Hochschule Worms in May, bringing the business world into the classroom! Looking forward to this! #internationalbusiness #interculturalchallenges #university

I am trying to get a hold of an idea. The idea is that an initial positive activity, something that promises a sense of liberation from structural constraints, eventually will turn on itself and become the new constraint. I first encountered this in the Frankfurter School Classic Dialectic of Enlightenment by Adorno and Horkheimer. Lately I have been refinding this pattern in corporate activities, where the initial promise of a proces, method or even technical systems, born out the idea of serving a valuable purpose, eventually becomes twisted and the activity itself becomes the purpose and forces the original purpose to a secondary priority if not absurdly enough, replacing it. So many activities in their inception seem rational and meaningful, so why are so many organizations struggling with converting that activity to valuable progress? I will let you know if I do get it one day.

Pleased with a great weekend at BISM - Bucharest International School of Management. So much valuable content shared by Adrian Stanciu; thankful for many ideas to think about 💡 Few ones that I’m still reflecting on: ✔️the exchange of favors represents the bond of social relations; ✔️in sales, the ‘no’ answer is a very good one; ✔️closings cannot be done without stage agreements; ✔️there are no organizational needs, there are only personal needs; ✔️competitive people compete for self promotion, not for company’s success;
