Today is remembered for the D Day landings that took place in France in 1944. A Project that was critical to the ongoing success of the Allied landings was the continuous provision of fuel for the vehicles. This was achieved by the installation of pipelines across the British Channel. This was known as Operation Pluto – reeled pipelines. There are some great clips via Google (Operation Pluto). These provide an insight as to how these pipelines were developed and installed. These short films are readily available and well worth a watch.

Chapter 6 of Redefining Cruising by Setting Sails deals with sailing with a vertical axis wind turbine. The invention is based on the task of providing a ship with a sail arrangement that can be extended from the hull, which is equipped with a dynamic levelling system for the ship's decks, which can be used during temporary sailing operations.
