Wavering back at my University days during my undergrad, the Society of Petroleum Engineers International has always been a major anchor to my learning and #professionaldevelopment – still is. This, is particularly after seeing how completely different the professional community operates, as against the usual student associations we were accustomed to in the higher learning institution. The fact that I get to connect with #industry stakeholders by just a student membership that is by the way paid for, by Chevron, was such a big thing. This, of course, is followed by one’s active participation. I remember moments from my being awarded the 2018 ‘Most Active Member Award’ of SPE ATBU Student Chapter… Fast forward to 2021 during my final year, the drive towards #selfdevelopment and volunteering had me taking up the Secretary General role of my host student chapter, while doubling as its Programs & Communications Chair. Together with Al-amin Ibrahim Goni, the President then, and others, we had one goal – win an award for the Chapter. Sadly, we couldn’t achieve that. But we picked up learnings that allowed us to support the current student members in the chapter. Interestingly, with the efforts from its current excos, that has resulted to the institution being named amongst recipients of the 2024 Presidential Outstanding Student Chapter Award. So, with all that, receiving this #AlumniAward earlier today caused such a reminiscing on how far my #volunteering has patterned my actions. Aside from other engagements with similar student chapters through the year 2024, I have engaged with ATBU, Bauchi, in delivering Ambassador Lecture (twice), Industry Transition Spotlight, and support in programme execution, for best practices. This is not complete without acknowledging the stern support which my affiliation, CypherCrescent Limited, has provided in my knowledge development which positioned me at a place to be able to share my experiences with others. I thought to share this in celebration of all the #youngprofessionals who are volunteering and sharing same, from their experiences. Might demand much, but worthwhile. Appreciations to Petroleum Engineering Department, ATBU Bauchi, through its HOD, and all at SPE ATBU.
