Great research from OECD - OCDE on the Drivers of Trust in Public Institutions highlights the pivotal role of transparency and collaboration. In Kyiv, rebuilding trust between residents and the city administration is essential. This is why open data, social inclusion, equity, and #PublicPrivatePartnerships are key parts of our future vision defined in the 2035 Kyiv Digital Strategy. Digital tools for electronic democracy, such as the “Condominium E-Voting” system, empower #citizens to participate directly in decision-making processes, fostering a sense of ownership and accountability. In today’s world, advancing openness, prosperity, and accountability is not merely a choice but a necessity. We are committed to driving these changes for a better, more transparent future. Supporting these initiatives involves collaboration and investment from international partners and private sector stakeholders. Together, we can build a resilient, sustainable, and digitally empowered Kyiv. Our projects connect #DigitalTransformation to broader #SustainableDevelopment efforts, ensuring a balanced and forward-thinking approach. #SmartCity #PublicTrust #DigitalDemocracy Petro Olenych Oleg Polovynko Victoria Itskovych Kateryna Mohylnytska Mathias Cormann

#lucidlens Across the USA, India, Africa, and Western Europe, the overreliance on digital governance highlights the risks of sidelining local politicians and participatory democracy. While technology can enhance efficiency, it must be balanced with mechanisms that prioritize inclusivity, transparency, and grassroots engagement. Reintegration of local politicians and fostering participatory feedback systems are essential to preserving democratic values in the digital age. Only by balancing technological efficiency with human-centered governance can democracy fulfill its promise of serving all citizens equitably.

Democracy in Western and Eastern Europe Western Europe narrowly edged out North America as the top-scoring region in the 2023 Democracy Index, although the region's improvement itself was modest (compared to previous years).
