The Tata Transformation Prize, launched in 2022 by TATA SONS LIMITED and powered by The New York Academy of Sciences, supports innovative solutions to India’s biggest challenges in Food Security, Sustainability, and Healthcare. In his article in the Independence Day special edition of the India Today magazine, our Chairman Satish Reddy discusses the roadmap of the Indian pharma industry. For Indian pharma to grow from its approximately $50 billion worth today to around $130 billion by 2030, and perhaps $400 billion by 2047, the key would be R&D, innovation, sustainability, upskilling and reskilling. In short, its journey would have to move the needle from ‘Make in India’ (as a cost-based manufacturing powerhouse) to ‘Discover and Make in India for the World’ (becoming a value-based innovation powerhouse). Satish also describes innovation broadly – “Innovation is more a mindset; it can come in many forms, including innovation for better access, new categories, new ways of doing business, deploying artificial intelligence and other technologies as enablers, and more. Over the past few years, I've had the privilege of working in cluster development to drive the evolution of #MSMEs across different sectors in India. This approach has not only enhanced the competitiveness of MSMEs but also created a ripple effect in the specific regions with the progressive champion units igniting the way for the success stories to be adopted and replicated across the #industry. Further, we have transformed project implementation by creating focused, collaborative and competitive environments that drive #growth, #innovation and #sustainable development.Not only this method has lead to greater synergies amongst all the #stakeholders in that region but it has also led to more efficient use of resources, better management practices and greater overall #impact in the clusters. This approach can be replicated across various sectors in #India by identifying region-specific strengths and creating focused #solutions for both #product and #service based industries. Our tailored interventions have the ability to fuel collaborative innovation which will further drive sectoral growth. By fostering public-private partnerships and streamlining policy support, clusters can be scaled efficiently. We have a new publication today. The publication is on the significant impact of #temperature deviations on #vaccine #efficacy and examines the prevalence of exposure to non-recommended temperatures, particularly focusing on freeze-sensitive vaccines. The study aims to identify critical points of temperature breaches during transportation from storage to last-mile delivery. In this cross-sectional study, the temperature integrity of vaccines has been examined during transportation across three states in India (#Karnataka, #Maharashtra, and #Rajasthan), utilizing data loggers to track and record temperatures in real time. By analyzing instances of exposure to temperatures beyond the recommended 2–8 C range, the study aims to identify the critical junctures within the vaccine supply chain susceptible to temperature excursion. Based on the results, the study provides recommendations using the #ABCD strategic framework, encompassing #awareness, #bestpractices, #continuous monitoring, #data management, and #documentation. This framework will be instrumental in addressing the identified challenges and significantly improving the temperature monitoring flexibility. The findings will inform targeted interventions, optimizing the cold chain to enhance the preservation of vaccine potency and identifying flexible solutions for maintaining the required temperatures from storage to transportation.
