Last week's ACS (Australian Computer Society) Qld Tech Summit provided lots of food for thought. 🤔 As an ever evolving topic, the currency of the panel discussion on the Cyber Security Landscape 🔐 provided many valuable insights, here are a few : 1️⃣ Cyber Criminals are at the forefront of using AI (no surprises there), but what was interesting is the innovative work being done by teams here in Qld to use AI to combat these attacks. 💡 2️⃣ A Small Business Cyber Standard, SMB1001, has been developed to support SMEs and acts as a stepping stone to ISO27001. 📜 3️⃣ Qld Government is supporting paid Cyber Traineeships as a faster way to get resources into this rapidly growing area. 🎓 4️⃣ Risk mitigation approaches such as regular reviews ensuring any data collection is relevant to your business strategy. ✅️ I would love to hear other's experience with gaining the SMB1001 certification - if you're either undertaking yourself or providing B2B services? #cybersecurity #SMB1001 #privacy Luisa Grant GAICD Ryan Ko Jamie Wilson Adam Green Jodie Siganto

Two years ago marks a pivotal moment in my journey – my first foray into speaking about cybersecurity on an international stage at CS4CA: Cyber Security for Critical Assets . The memories of stepping up to that podium, the sea of faces, and the weight of the responsibility to share, educate, and inspire, remain as vivid as ever. It was a moment that stretched the boundaries of my comfort zone and propelled me into new realms of growth and possibilities. Since that defining moment, my voyage through the intricate and ever-evolving world of cybersecurity has been nothing short of remarkable. The learning curve was steep, the challenges relentless, but the rewards and insights gained along the way have been immeasurable. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Richard Shepherd, Alexandre Paes and others in Proman for their unwavering support and belief in my potential and whose insights and mentorship have been invaluable. Their guidance has not only shaped my professional journey but also instilled a deep sense of gratitude in me. As I reflect on this journey, I am reminded of the endless possibilities that lie ahead in the realm of cybersecurity. The landscape is continually changing, and with it, the need for innovation, vigilance, and a shared commitment to safeguarding our digital world. #Cybersecurity #Gratitude #ProfessionalGrowth #Throwback

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Cyber London Launch, an event brimming with pivotal insights on Cyber Security delivered by key international stakeholders and leaders in the field, such as Danielle Phillips MBA FIIC, Maarja Pehk, Paresh Deshmukh and Latham French plus many more. Key Takeaways: · The evolution of AI and the impending significance of Quantum Computing & Cryptography. · An increase in Cyber Attacks/Threats. · A gap in opportunities for graduates. · HR Workforce systems must adapt to the evolving landscape. · A noticeable lack of Cyber Security awareness at the primary school level. Insights I'd Like to Share: The event was not only a platform for knowledge enrichment but also an opportunity to network with both seasoned professionals and newcomers to the industry. It reinforced the idea that one's network is indeed their net worth. Transitioning into a new industry can be daunting, filled with apprehension and uncertainty. However, the ability to overcome these barriers is immensely gratifying and ultimately rewarding. #ChangeisGreat #CyberSecurity #CyberLondon #UKC3 #EmergingTech

I came across the term conformational bias when talking about how attitudes to cyber security within SMEs, are often entrenched. Conformational bias ks a scientific term that refers to the tendency of a molecule to adopt one particular conformation over others. This bias can influence the overall properties and behavior of the molecule, impacting how it reacts to a given situation. So what I hear you say, and quite right too! But the term has been hi-jacked by psychologists to show how people, or at least most people, conform to a given wisdom. For example, cyber security is an IT issue that can be solved with the use of technology. That's the perceived wisdom that permeates much of the SME world. However the truth is that cyber security is actually a business issue and the solutions needed have to solve threats to the business. This goes someway to explaining how hard it is to change that perceived wisdom. It's entrenched, owners and managers believe it simply because it's much easier to believe it, than to embrace what is really needed to provide the protections required. That belief is reinforced because of the sheer amount of people who believe it, and who continue to reinforce it. If you find that an interesting concept, then let's get a discussion going. #conformationalbias #cybersecurity #SMEs #attitudes #technology #businessissue #wisdom #psychology #perception #IT #threats #entrenchedbeliefs
