As I reach $5M ARR, competition feels like a myth.
Those who can’t add value fear competition.
When I first started growing Saleshandy, I heard the same thing over and over again:
“Watch your competitors, study their every move, and stay ahead.”
It sounded smart.
It sounded like what every business leader should do.
But in reality? It’s a myth.
In the early days, I followed this advice.
- I kept a close eye on other companies.
- I tried to one-up their features, messaging, and pricing.
It felt like I was constantly chasing them.
It wasn’t until I let go of that fear of competition that we began to grow.
Here’s what I learned about the myth of competition:
#1: Focus on customers, not competitors.
My biggest shift happened when I stopped obsessing over what others were doing and started paying full attention to our customers' needs.
- I asked questions.
- I listened to their struggles.
- I solved their problems.
That’s how trust is built.
And when your customers trust you, they stop looking for alternatives.
#2: Unique positioning beats competition.
In the race to beat competitors, you end up sounding just like them.
The biggest leap forward came.
When I stopped comparing and started positioning us better.
Saleshandy is not just another tool in the market.
Instead of being everything to everyone,
we narrowed our focus and got good at one thing.
We weren’t trying to outdo others but focused on what we did best.
With time, our audience grew, and we built our customer base.
#3: Collaboration over competition.
One of the biggest myths
I had to unlearn that competition is a zero-sum game.
In reality, collaboration can take you much further.
Instead of viewing others as threats, I began reaching out to potential partners.
We expanded our reach and offered even more value to our users.
In a nutshell:
Stop chasing the competition and start creating value.
It’s a distraction if you let it be.
