Jordan numbers 👀 Yes, if you played Robolox this weekend, Backtrace was probably running on the backend. What makes his journey extra special is that he didn't stop there. In a few short months, he was called up to be the CTO at Sauce Labs and helped lead the organization through incredible stages of growth. Now that his tenure is complete, he did admit that there was a little bit of an identity crisis he experienced. How would he spend his time now post-exit? What's the true purpose of his existence? How would he pursue a greater purpose? During this fireside chat, we'll discuss the above and more. The Flappy Bird Foundation has secured $2 million in seed funding as part of its effort to relaunch one of the most iconic games of the 21st century. Led by Kenetic Capital and Scytale Digital, the funding round also saw participation from Big Brain Holdings, Optic Capital, and 4SV. The initiative aims to modernize Flappy Bird by incorporating new Web3 features designed to captivate both nostalgic players and new audiences. First released in May 2013, Flappy Bird quickly gained global popularity before being unexpectedly removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play just seven months later. Michael Roberts, the foundation’s chief creative, said: “It’s a privilege to modernize such a legendary game, all while preserving the features that devoted gamers loved in the first place. Flappy Bird will be as enjoyably frustrating as it always has been — with endless levels for players who love a challenge. We’ve also got new modes and characters in store to boost the experience. So many mobile games just sap the time of their loyal users, leaving them with nothing to show for it. By launching Flappy Bird in Web3 we are supercharging the gameplay and experience by offering players rewards to recognize the achievements and skill of competitors.” Mark Cachia, CIO at Scytale, said: We are beyond bullish on Web3 gaming, and we are still in the early phase of seeing established brands crossing over. For years, players have longed to share in the success of their favorite apps. Great to see continued excitement and investment in Web3 Gaming. A16Z's Speedrun program is opening its 3rd round with a $750K seed investment for each of the 40 companies accepted. Although Web3 is almost inseparable from the Decentralized Finance (DeFi) movement, I believe that Games will be an even bigger driver of Web3's core concepts over the next few years. Celebrating 10 Years of BuiltByBit! 🎂 Today marks the 10-year anniversary since BuiltByBit was founded. Over the past decade, we’ve evolved from a small Minecraft forum into one of the most influential gaming user-generated content companies. When I was 13, I was wide-eyed and entrepreneurial. I didn’t know anything about business, but when I heard that people were making money from playing Minecraft, I couldn’t believe it. I knew that I wanted to make this my career Me, my business, and the UGC ecosystem as a whole have grown immensely since then. Back then, it was like the wild west, hoping that you wouldn't get scammed on every transactions in Skype group chats. Flash forward 10 years, and we’re now providing the safe environment I wish that I had for enterprising teens to learn business skills and earn money from their gaming hobby. Over a hundred thousand teens and young adults return to BuiltByBit every month, and our creators are on track to earn over $2,000,000 this year through BuiltByBit, which has been doubling every year. It's amazing to watch and support the gaming entrepreneurial space growing around us.
