✨ Get ready to sparkle, #Toronto! Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is just around the corner! If you’re planning to light up the night with fireworks, remember that safety comes first. Here’s a quick checklist to help everyone celebrate safely: 📜 Get a Permit: Wherever you are in Toronto, a permit is required to set off fireworks for Diwali. 🕚 Know the Curfew: Fireworks are allowed on your private property until 11 PM, and only those 18+ can handle them. 📍 Choose a Safe Spot: Not every location is fireworks-friendly! Fireworks are not allowed in parks, on beaches, streets, parking lots, balconies, or on private property that isn’t yours. If you’re celebrating at home, make sure your yard is clear of buildings or trees and that there’s plenty of space for spectators. 🔥 Dispose Safely: When the festivities end, don’t forget proper disposal. Soak used or unused fireworks in water overnight before placing them in the garbage. Remember, fireworks should never go in the blue bin! Be mindful of your surroundings, avoid setting off fireworks where they could be a nuisance, and let’s make it a safe and sparkling Diwali for everyone! 🎆 #BrianMcIntyreRealEstate #Diwali #FestivalOfLights

Spirit of Christmas doesn't grow on a fir tree, Christmas blooms wherever the heart is hatefree. Ramadan isn't fulfilled by feasting on some tasty beef, The greatest of feast is haram if others go hungry. Hanukkah's miracle isn't about the oil lasting 8 days, Rather it's about the resilience of light amidst darkness. Fireworks may be diwali for those still in kindergarten, Everyday is diwali for an existence rooted in kindness. The will to love and the will to lift are the backbone, Of all human celebration, tradition and communion. Take that fundamental will out of the equation, All you have left are rituals without meaning and mission. Fasting, feasting and decorating are step two of any festival. First and foremost, at our altar within, we gotta light a candle.

New Moon: A time every month to focus on new beginnings and set intentions for new seeds you wish to plant for your future. Bursting crackers has not traditionally been a part of the religious ceremonies associated with Diwali. The festival, known as the “Festival of Lights,” traditionally involves lighting oil lamps (diyas), decorating homes, worshipping deities like Lakshmi and Ganesha, and exchanging sweets to celebrate the victory of light over darkness. The use of fireworks during Diwali became popular in more recent centuries, likely as a form of public celebration and joy rather than as a ritualistic or religious practice. Fireworks are now commonly associated with the festival, symbolizing festivity and excitement, but they are not integral to the spiritual or ritualistic aspects of Diwali. The traditional essence of the festival remains focused on light, family gatherings, and prayers for prosperity. Bursting crackers has serious side effects on humans as well as birds apart from a drain on pockets.

Today is Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights which marks the good over evil and wishes everyone a life with endless prosperity, health, and wealth. Today is also Halloween, which as Wikipedia describes is a ‘celebration dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful departed. In popular culture, the day has become a celebration of horror’. In my home, we will be embracing both festivals today, as I have two little humans who love carving pumpkins and all things halloween, and especially trick-or-treating! However, this day also sums up life in so many ways - light versus dark, good versus evil, good days versus bad days. It also reminds us that life often presents us with everything at once, unexpectedly. Life Happens. Yet, even when faced with circumstances beyond our control, we always have a choice—to act or not to act. I call this as ‘the seat of empowerment’, where you decide whether to pursue something positive that brings you closer to your goals, despite the challenges, OR to take actions that lead you away from them, ultimately not making you feel great. For me personally, rather than begrudging why both festivals have happened on the same day since they are the polar opposites - I decided to celebrate them both, especially since Diwali is marked according to the Lunar calendar and is out of my control. However, the key ingredients in being able to do this was acceptance, preparation and humour. 🪻Acceptance - rather than getting annoyed and frustrated, I accepted that it is beyond my control and will happen regardless, so I might as well enjoy both. 🪻Preparation - buying pumpkins, sweets, rangoli (coloured powder) and divas. 🪻Humour - tried to find humour in the ‘yin and yang’ moments because after all laughing is good for you and adds more joy to life! So next time you are faced with a difficult situation or decision, always remember that you have a choice - to do or not to do. Wishing everyone a very happy Diwali and a happy halloween! Have a great evening! 🎃🪔🥰 #diwali #hindu #halloween #life #celebrations #yinyang #choices #decisions #empowerment #acceptance

#Diwali, the festival of lights, carries some timeless lessons: #Triumph of Good Over Evil: Celebrates the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. It's a reminder to stay hopeful and positive. #Unity and Togetherness: Diwali brings people together, strengthening bonds and fostering a sense of community and togetherness. #New Beginnings: Symbolizes new beginnings and fresh starts. Cleaning homes, wearing new clothes, and lighting lamps signify letting go of the past and welcoming new opportunities. #Gratitude and Generosity: Encourages gratitude for what we have and generosity toward others. Sharing sweets and gifts is a way to show appreciation and spread joy. #Self-Reflection: The festival is also a time for self-reflection, to assess our actions and aim for self-improvement.
