During my time at MEST Africa, my team and I at one point focused on addressing a unique aspect of ride-hailing in Ghana, however not the typical ride-hailing you know. Our goal was to bring the non-standardized forms of transportation in Ghana onto the digital landscape. The existing ride-hailing apps in Ghana, (which are basically imported 😶 ), have successfully integrated the business operations of hailing taxis, personal vehicles, and luxury rides to help users get from point A to point B. This works well because our primary modes of transportation are similar to those in other countries. Some #apps, like #Bolt, have even gone ahead to adapt their services to suit local users by offering food deliveries and market runs. However, these apps still leave out a significant number of alternative transportation options unique to Ghana, such as "Aboboyaa", "Kia", "Kia long", and even "Pragia". My team set out to create a cargo-hailing app to address the challenges of bulk deliveries in Ghana using these vehicles. During our research, we spoke with many people, but I remember one "aboboyaa" rider got so excited at the possibility of such an app that he kept calling us for updates weeks after our initial conversation. Funny enough, I was initially skeptical thinking the existing ride-hailing apps dominated the ecosystem, thus leaving no room for our idea. However, that encounter convinced me that there are still significant gaps to fill with innovations, no matter how small the idea may seem. The project was a pivotal learning experience, highlighting the importance of localized solutions in a global market. The experience reinforced my belief in the power of tailored digital platforms to meet specific market needs and improve our everyday experiences. To start a business, you don’t need capital at first. You just need an idea first and the right people second. Trust me, Dunzo was not a business at first; it started with an idea to collect something from one place and deliver it to another place. Later, the Dunzo app was developed by Friends itself. Uber was not a business at first; it started with the idea of providing taxi service to people even during peak hours. The Uber app was developed. To do business, you only need two things: an idea and the right people. An idea of a solution that solves a particular problem. Finding the right people with whom the idea can be built into a solution. At SODME, a data-driven digital marketing agency, we prioritize realizing the visions of like-minded people and transforming their dreams into reality. I’m open to conversations. Drop me your ideas at sangeetha@sodme.in #businessideas

🚖 The Forus journey in the Baltics 🇪🇪🇱🇹🇱🇻 Forus International started in Estonia with a team of experienced entrepreneurs and has expanded rapidly across the Baltics. Since entering Latvia in the summer of 2022, they’ve achieved impressive milestones: ✅ 1,000,000+ rides in Latvia within the first year ✅ 2,500 drivers connected in Latvia ✅ 200,000+ app downloads across three countries ❗ Only 3.2/5 app rating 🧑 Team size: 35+ 💸 Their core market remains Estonia, where Forus (Forus Takso Eesti AS) expects 4.7M EUR in revenue with a 50%/30% split between taxi services and vehicle rentals to drivers. Forus continues to rely on a strong user base from previous years and minimal marketing spending (75,000 EUR/year). 💡 Interestingly, the b2b contract with "Tallinn's social transport for disabled people" brings in around 850,000 EUR or 35% of taxi-related revenue. 🌏 On international markets (Latvia and Lithuania), Forus (Forus International OÜ) expects 669,000 EUR turnover this year. They are still heavily investing in marketing, spending 1.1M EUR in 2022 and 460,000 EUR in 2023. 👉 Cool fact: Forus has a unique offering—the US Token, allowing customers and drivers to earn and trade tokens based on their usage and activity in the app.🚖 This adds a community-driven layer to the service, providing stakeholders the option to "own" part of the company. Have you used Forus in the Baltics? What’s your experience?
