Excellent day in #Cyprus! Marina Cabrini, Erika Wesselingh-Gutmane from CEPIS and Skevi Skordallou , CISA from Cyprus Computer Society - CCS met with representatives from Open University of Cyprus, University of Nicosia, Frederick University, European University Cyprus, UCLan Cyprus, Neapolis University Pafos and University of Limassol to explore the main issues that tech/STEM programmes face when it comes to gender (in)equality, create new collaborations and, of course, get inspired by each other's amazing work! Key takeaways: - It is vital to educate parents and teachers on the importance of encouraging girls to pursue studies in #tech - we still encounter many who actively discourage their daughters/female pupils from getting into STEM. - Stakeholders must focus on sustainable activities rather than ad-hoc events to ensure maximum impact. - Exchange of information both on national and pan-European level is crucial to amplify the effects of activities and initiatives. - We need role models/mentors, especially local ones who girls can relate to. Women who have progressed further in their careers, on the other hand, need more sponsors rather than just mentors. All today's participants have wonderful and impactful initiatives in place - from scholarships to info days to tech activities. Next step: share the success stories and join forces to achieve more girls and women in tech! Find out more about DiversIT here: https://lnkd.in/dzktWvu
