HIRING HYBRID? One of the challenges that we're tackling at the moment is supporting clients who want to hire locally. It's no secret that the demand on Software Engineers wanting remote working is higher than ever, but how can we hire the best local candidates? We recently partnered with a new start-up looking for Software Engineers, who had over 300 direct applicants. 90 "skill aligned" were interviewed and none of them were hired. In just 2 weeks, we found the right person. This number was actually a really high hit rate of potentially suitable on paper, but unfortunately there's more to it than a skills match. A lot of these applicants took a chance and were hoping for remote working or were just completely off when it came to the interview. How much time was invested to search through the profiles, respond, set-up the interviews, manage relationships and expectations ,conduct each interview and then feedback ( have I missed any?). What can you do to attract more local talent? - Be very clear about the details of location, not just "hybrid/ remote". - Get involved with local organisations, meet-ups and any networking opportunities - Sponsor local events, charities and collaborate locally wherever possible. - Shout out about the great things going on in the local area It all starts by creating a positive and inclusive work environment, that people want to be a part of.
