The hot summer is becoming a serious challenge for crops in Ukraine, russia and the EU, even for sunflower, which is more resistant to hot weather. Unusually high temperatures in July, combined with dry soil, have negative impact on yield forecasts and prospects for the new crop. Due to the extremely high average daily temperatures and the rapid accumulation of effective heat, which is significantly higher than the long-term average, the inter-phase periods of sunflower development are shortened, which can lead to a premature end of the growing season and a reduction in yield.

While all soil nutrients play a role in plant health, the importance of Nitrogen in all stages of growth really cannot be overstated. Nitrogen is the element that gives plants their green coloring, and is one of the main components of chlorophyll - it plays a vital role in the process of Photosynthesis. As an important part of the plant’s protein, Nitrogen is essential for nearly every stage of a plant’s growth. Nitrogen is found in higher concentrations in the soil than other elements like Carbon, Oxygen or Hydrogen and it plays a main role in the soil’s health and fertility. Microbes in the soil consume Nitrogen and process it into a form that is available for plants to absorb. Healthy, structured soil will provide enough microbes to fix Nitrogen in the root zone where it is most needed. If Nitrogen is not fixed in the soil, it can be washed away and leached into waterways, contributing to algae blooms and other environmental issues. Crops like Legumes, Alfalfa and Clover can help to fix Nitrogen in the soil. Another way to fix Nitrogen in the soil is to use a soil amendment that contains Humic Acid. Learn more about how Humic Land can help fix Nitrogen, improve soil health and crop yield -> https://bit.ly/472Ua8b #nitrogen #soilhealth #healthysoil #organicfarming #regenerativeagriculture #soilscience #humicacid

What is the impact of water on crops? Poor quality water can be responsible for slow growth, poor aesthetic quality of the crop and, in some cases, can result in the gradual death of the plants. High soluble salts can directly injure roots, interfering with water and nutrient uptake. Salts can accumulate in plant leaf margins, causing burning of the edges.

(CHINA 14.05.24) #lychees China’s $4 Billion Lychee Harvest Devastated by Extreme Weather. China's $4 billion lychee industry is reeling from extreme weather, including a warm winter and heavy spring rains, leading to a sharp decrease in harvest and a spike in prices. The country, which is both the largest producer and consumer of lychees, may see its production drop to around half of the previous year's 3.1 million tons. This has caused distress among lychee enthusiasts and raised concerns for farmers unable to protect their crops from increasingly severe weather patterns. The situation highlights the broader impact of climate change on Chinese agriculture. https://lnkd.in/eN5yCZ2t

🌾 Today, nine plant species account for 66% of global crop production, with rice, wheat, and maize providing more than 50% of the world’s plant-derived calories. This reliance on a narrow set of crops undermines food system resilience, leaving our food supply vulnerable. ♻️ Think someone could learn from this?
