Over the past six months we have taken part in Culture Makes, a UK-wide initiative run by the Cultural Philanthropy Foundation, which highlights the positive impact of culture and the need for greater investment. This month we’re celebrating our impact in building community. We’re proudly rooted in our neighbourhood in the City of London and collaborate with our local communities and people to create joyful celebrations of the stories they care about. The Imagine Fund was a four-year community grant project developed by Barbican’s Creative Collaboration team, which distributed funding from the City of London Corporation's Community Infrastructure Levy Neighbourhood Fund. Funding was allocated by panels of local community members who identified projects which benefited their communities. From 2020 to 2024, The Imagine Fund distributed over £100k, which helped 65 local people and groups to kickstart their ideas and creative enterprises. See more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/enjeg246

This year, we were proud to support nine community organisations and projects across our neighbourhoods, from London to Maidenhead to Manchester, with a total of £80,000 in funding. Working with ActionFunder, a platform that brings responsible businesses together with non-profits to make change happen, our Inspiring Community funds help enact positive change in local communities by supporting upskilling, improving mental and physical health and providing greater access to cultural and environmental-led activities. Groups that received support this year include Friends of Maidenhead Waterway, a charity committed to improving access to the waterway for all; Mads do & Mend CIC, an organisation which empowers communities to mend clothes themselves through craft and creativity; Chobham Friends, the parent-teacher association for Chobham Academy primary at East Village and Foundation 92, which works with young people in Pendleton, Greater Manchester to provide upskilling and wellbeing opportunities. Are you MAD? After working with charities on their IT and telecoms for a number of years, Stuart noticed a repeat problem where there was insufficient affordable housing for their service users resulting in homelessness, living in shelters, sofa surfing etc. Let's Make a Difference (MAD) was set up to build a different social housing model where businesses, individuals, and investors could all make a positive impact on their community for generations to come. Creating a new way of approaching the problem MAD is putting processes and assets in place that will last for generations. But, they need our support. Come along to our next meeting to find out how we’re all chipping in to support Stuart 😊 #ReferralMarketing #HousingCrisis

Public libraries are just one example of how cultural activity can improve health and wellbeing. Buckinghamshire Libraries do much more than loan books. They act as community hubs and offer a huge variety of free services, support and opportunities to local communities. They partner with charities such as Alina Orchestra, support the Summer Reading Challenge and engage artists in a range of projects as part of the Healthy Libraries programme. Read more in our latest Buckinghamshire Culture report here: https://lnkd.in/eMVhDt6g Our Buckinghamshire Uncovered reports are powered by Bucks Data Exchange and funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. #CreativeHealth #ArtsAndCulture #Buckinghamshire #BucksUncovered #HeartOfBucks #Community

NCVO and ACEVO are working closely with the government to develop the Civil Society Covenant - a new framework that aims to reset how government engages with civil society, creating lasting positive changes for charities, community groups, and social enterprises. Why does this matter? For too long, the relationship between civil society and government has been transactional. The Civil Society Covenant seeks to change this by establishing a shared commitment to work together on challenges facing our communities, creating a foundation for resilient, connected, and empowered communities across the UK. The Covenant is built on four guiding principles: 🔹 Recognition of civil society’s independence and value 🔹 Partnership to enhance service delivery and inclusive decision-making 🔹 Participation to ensure communities have a voice in decisions that affect them 🔹 Transparency for open communication and data-sharing How to get involved Civil society organisations and groups of all sizes, including charities, community groups, social enterprises, cooperatives and funders, are encouraged to share their views and experiences to shape the final framework. Learn more about the Covenant and complete the feedback form by 12 December: https://lnkd.in/egrnCiuu
