🎉 Reflecting on My First Year as a Project Manager 🎉 This week marks a significant milestone for me—my first anniversary as a Project Manager! 🌟 As I look back on the past year, I’m amazed at how much we’ve accomplished. When I first stepped into this role, I knew it would be challenging, but there was no way I’d know how fulfilling it could be. From managing tight deadlines and balancing client needs to leading a team through a complex project, every day has been a new adventure. Here are a few highlights from my first year: Successful Project Deliveries: We achieved the delivery of the Tower 1 of One Sydney Habour earlier this year, and we're nearing the completion of Tower 2! What a ride it’s been to see the project advance as it has! Growth & Learning: I’ve honed my skills in construction processes, and I’m continuously inspired by the ever-evolving nature of project management. Problem solving: This project has had unique challenges, and finding solutions has been a daily puzzle. Learning how to solve them and how to react quickly to them has been a key ingredient to getting to the point where we're right now. Here’s to many more years of growth, challenge, and success ahead! 🚀💼

Want a successful project? Here's what you need to do: Get the planning phase right. This means getting all the disciplines involved, right from the start. Figuring out the best way to approach your project So you can get the outcome you want. It sounds simple. But it's not that easy! Because these teams don't always see eye to eye. Most people focus on how tough project execution is, and it definitely is but recently I’ve come to understand that starting a project can be just as challenging. Initiating a project means facing a lot of unknowns and variables. You’re juggling things like acquiring the land, getting permits sorted on time, finalizing the design, and ensuring everything is in place for a successful launch. None of this is straightforward, and there are always surprises along the way. What I’ve learned is that the effort put into this phase sets the tone for the entire project. If the groundwork isn’t solid, it’s only a matter of time before issues start surfacing down the line. I think this part of the process often doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. For those who have dealt with this, I’d love to hear your experiences and how you navigated these challenges.

Making the move from the office to the field can be challenging—especially for Project Coordinators or junior Project Managers.👷 It's tough to assert your authority when you're starting fresh with any established team, but the "hapless office worker" perception can be particularly hard to shake. 🚧 How do YOU handle roadblocks to respect in a new environment?

However, with careful planning and execution, you can ensure successful project completion even in the summer days. Note: Remember to take some time off to recharge and enjoy the sun like your teammates. Taking time off is not only good for your health and well-being, but it's also crucial for creativity and effective project management. Early in 2025, things are feeling positive in Sydneys Development and Project Management market 📈 After an interesting (sometimes gloomy) year, the chatter around the market in the first few weeks of this year feels overwhelmingly positive in comparison 🙌 There seems to be a lot more confidence about releasing spend and getting the wheels in motion on projects that have been up in the air for some time now 💸 Things are looking good so far! I found that working on multiple side projects concurrently is better than concentrating on just one. This seems inefficient at first, but whenever you tend to lose motivation, you can temporarily switch to another one with full élan. However, remember to stop starting and start finishing. This doesn't mean you should be working on 10+ (and a growing list of) side projects concurrently! Select your projects and commit to finishing them before starting the next thing. For example, my current limit of concurrent side projects is around five.
