INTRODUCTION Strong sustainable economies are the bedrock of successful societies. Space technology already enhances all sectors of our economy and is giving European industry a competitive edge on the world stage. We will demonstrate how businesses of all sizes in every non-space sector are benefiting from space applications, increasing revenues and facilitating company growth. This event will be the most important event for the European Space Agency (ESA)'s Business Applications and Space Solutions programme (BASS) in 2024. We aim to demystify space by demonstrating the value of the application of space technologies across every aspect of daily life and its impact in many economic sectors in Europe and around the world. THE EVENT At this event ESA will showcase the work of BASS as a key driver for sustainable innovation across European industry, with endorsements by senior leaders from high profile companies. We will also: demonstrate how user-driven innovation is critical to achieving a greater integration of space into the wider economy, in the context of the digital economy showcase the impact of space applications on non-space economies foster a dialogue between stakeholders, developing links between industrial eco-systems outline the opportunities offered by BASS financial, technical and business support AGENDA A full agenda will be published shortly. The recent North East Space Conference showcased the pivotal role the region plays in shaping the future of the UK space industry. With over 200 attendees from around the world, the event underscored the sector's growth and the innovative initiatives underway both locally and globally. Organised by Space North East England for the 10th consecutive year, the conference brought together international experts, academics, and industry leaders driving the space agenda forward. As part of session 3: ÉCONOMIE, POLITIQUE ET FINANCEMENT my presentation on the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) report 'Bridging the Financing Gap in the European Space Sector: Alternative funding pathways in tightening markets' will delve into key topics relevant to the NewSpace sector, including: - Investment trends in deeptech and space during high interest-rate periods. - Open versus directed innovation policies and funding mechanisms. - Policies for PPPs in other space economies. - A revised role of national development banks. - Export credit agencies and targeted export campaigns. - Infrastructure financing and FDI. - Private equity impact funds. Yesterday I was invited to be a keynote speaker for the second French German Space Meeting, and to discuss the future of New Space and European leadership in key technologies at Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany in Paris. Alongside Hélène Huby we dived into the evolving landscape of space startups and the opportunities and challenges faced by German and French companies in global competition. It was a great opportunity to foster Franco-German collaboration and exchange insights on the goals and potential within the space sector. One of the key message for me was to see that Europe has the opportunity to lead in certain areas, one of them thermal infrared remote sensing. Still, we will need to keep innovating to make that last and do so as a joint Europe with France and Germany two key players As a company operating at the intersection of Germany, Belgium, and France, we are proud to contribute to the European space industry and play a role in advancing technological innovation on a continental scale. 🇩🇪🇧🇪🇫🇷 Thanks to Gilles Rabin Stephan Steinlein for a great exchange. #newspace #thermalinsights #spaceindustry
