Attachment and bonding are two terms you may come across when talking about the relationship between a child and a caregiver. Attachment is one aspect of the relationship between a caregiver and a child, revolving around the ability to make the child feel safe, secure, and protected. Another way to think of it is that the child associates the caregiver as a primary base, one to turn to during time of uncertainty, seeking haven and comfort! Bonding is not attachment. The actual topic of bonding was discovered when developing the concept of skin-to-skin contact between a mother and a child. It is now recognized as the process in which attachments and relationships are formed. With an early and positive relationship, it helps to build a connection with the mother to the child and subsequently the child to form trust with the mother. #AttachmentParenting #EarlyIntervention #ParentProblems #InfantSpecialist #NewParent #BabyBonding
