A Big Week for Business, Manufacturing, and wonky fruit 🍏 As the Chancellor prepared to deliver the budget last Wednesday, the Daily Dose Juice team were up early hosting the Good Morning Team (ITV) at our Corby manufacturing site. Katy Rickitt and the team spoke with George and some the wider Daily Dose team about the impact of the 2024 Autumn Budget on UK business and those working with the manufacturing sector. As featured in the ‘Food Manufacturer’, George Hughes-Davies expressed concern about proposed Capital Gains Tax Increase would discourage entrepreneurship and make investment less attractive. “These changes make an already uncompetitive UK even less attractive for anyone looking to set up a business in the UK.” The Grocer Whilst the outlined budget may lead to some unexpected hurdles, Daily Dose continues to stand to support UK business, one wonky cucumber at a time. Thank you to the team at ITV (Good Morning Britain) for coming to visit us; as well as the whole Daily Dose team for a great set-up whilst sharing their thoughts. We would also like to say thank you to Harry Holmes (The Grocer) and William D. (Food Manufacturing) for featuring Daily Dose. #PR #UKBusiness #AutumnBudget #Manufacturing

Businesses having to spend 50K plus on Government Red Tape is an appalling waste of time and money and highly damaging to business viability. The $50 billion Hospitality sector is united in calling out the impact of government red tape on business profitability. Foodservice Suppliers, Distributors and Retailers say hard working, family owned businesses are spending tens of thousands of dollars in time and money abiding by increasingly complex government red tape and compliance. At a time when the cost of doing business is extremely challenging, and margins are thin, red tape and compliance is one area governments have control over yet business reports an increase of 60 percent in the impact of regulation on business in the past twelve months. (ACCI survey). If government really cared about business then this is one way to help! In our recent webinar with Robeks CFO David Rawnsley, we discussed how the brand successfully navigated the impact of California’s AB 1228, which raised the minimum wage by 25%. Their top priority was clear: simplify operations and reduce costs to sustain franchisee profitability. The bigger challenge? Making these changes without sacrificing the guest experience. With data from Bikky, Robeks carefully measured every operational and menu adjustment they implemented in response to the legislation. "We had to determine whether the changes we made to protect profitability for our franchisees in the short term would hurt us down the line. Having the customer data to understand the impact of these changes allowed us to feel confident about the choices we made." - David Rawnsley, CFO at Robeks Check out our full case study to see exactly how these changes played out ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eFr9tYGQ

Doom or Boom? - Fiona McDonald reflects on the resilience of food & drink manufacturing. We are currently facing a number of stories where food and drink manufacturing businesses (spanning both family owned and multi-national) are either closing down, are for sale or announcing redundancies. For example, Asda and Typhoo. This month, UK retailers (including Tesco, Boots, M&S, Next, Kingfisher, Whitbread) warned the Chancellor of closures, job cuts and price increases, as a result of the budget tax rises. Oddies, a fourth generation Lancashire bakery is seeking a rescue deal. It left me feeling quite saddened when I read in Food Manufacture that their MD reported Oddies "….has withstood two world wars and their food scarcity, the Great Depression, the fall out of Lancashire's cotton industry, the rise of powerful supermarkets and even the COVID-19 pandemic." What is next? It is easy to get caught in the doom and gloom and yet we have been here before. Food & drink manufacturing has overcome a multitude of challenges and obstacles over the years, even centuries. In evolution, the strong/adaptable/resilient (and sometimes lucky) survive. Let's remain positive and hopeful for the survivors, the innovators, the creators and for the future of food & drink manufacturing! #foodanddrinkmanufacturing #futuretrends #bepositive #resilient

Have you heard the term "economies of scale" and wondered what it means? It's a similar principle to bulk buying. Let's say you buy a single lemon at $3 and then see an offer of 5 lemons for $10. Because you're buying more, your per-lemon cost is reduced to $2 each. Economies of scale is the same idea applied to businesses. As a company gets bigger or more efficient, it can spread its fixed costs (like rent and salaries) over more products or services sold, often leading to a lower cost per unit - making it more profitable. For example, if a burger restaurant improves its assembly process, allowing it to increase sales from 100 burgers a day to 200 while keeping its fixed costs down, then it has reduced its per-burger cost and increased its profit. Investing doesn't have to be complex! Stay tuned for more breakdowns of everyday financial terms. #FinancialLiteracy #Investing

Green Party’s Harvie on TV yesterday stating total mistruths about the failed, disastrous deposit return scheme. Some facts…👇🏼 ▪️ The Scheme Wasn’t Ready Green’s Lorna Slater repeatedly failed to provide key details of the scheme in Parliament. Bottle counting warehouses hadn’t been built and many questions still remain unanswered. ▪️The Scheme Was Illegal A Scottish grocer owner successfully challenged the legality of the retailer handling fees which the scheme was to impose on retailers. ▪️The Scheme Wouldn’t Have Worked British Glass, the representative body for the UK industry were clear to point out that the scheme would have led to LESS glass being recycled. We now know from a similar scheme in Ireland that the Reverse Vending Machines are not fit for purpose. They are incredibly unreliable and are constantly breaking down. This has resulted in return rates as low as 7%. There’s not a single drinks company, hospitality business or wholesaler who agrees that the scheme was set for success. ▪️UK Internal Market Act Was Not ‘Sabotage’. Scotgov’s insistence on steaming ahead before rUK was going to put many out of business. The fact is that it was providing a trade barrier with England, Wales and NI for many small Scottish firms. The UKIMA was set up for this very reason. This disastrous scheme masterminded by Harvie and his inept, clueless Marxist cabal has cost the Scottish taxpayer £186 million to date. Firms out of pocket are now set to sue Scotgov for up to £300 million more. Quick question Patrick…. If this was the UK Gov’s fault then why aren’t these firms suing Westminister?

Price gouging or intelligent pricing? It's a slippery slope when the government becomes involved with pricing. Who determines what's gouging, what is a fair return. How much will depend on if you are on the correct side of the political aisle? Remember the Panera exemption in Newsom's most recent fast food wage hike. Customers will still know who has the best deals and if price is important, that is where they will gravitate to. Government control of pricing will add another layer of bureaucracy onto private business and will likely try to have the private businesses pay for the new layer of bureaucracy. Crazy world - Vote
