I asked Michelle a bit about her journey: - What inspired you to pursue this career path? “I’ve always had a knack for managing finances, particularly the challenge of debt collection. There’s a unique satisfaction in making that extra call, ensuring debts are collected efficiently and reducing the risks of bad debt. It’s this passion for securing financial stability that drives me every day.” - Can you share a bit about your career journey? “At 25, I set the goal of becoming a Credit Manager. It took plenty of dedication and perseverance, but I achieved this! A big thank you to Johnny Philippou for recognising my potential and appointing me as Head of Credit Control, helping me fulfil this long-standing ambition.” - What does a typical day look like for you as a Credit Control Manager? “Each day brings challenges, but ensuring our clients’ needs are met is key. I conduct thorough credit vetting and ensure all processes are followed before approving credit limits.” - What key lessons have you learned in your role? “I’ve learned the importance of teamwork, consistency, and effective problem-solving. Leading by example is something I believe in strongly.” - How has the industry changed, and what future changes do you anticipate? “With rising interest rates, businesses are relying more on borrowed funds. Jody Lambert, VP of Dealer Risk Management at Anderson Brothers Bank, shared his views on down payments during the Non-Prime Auto Financing Conference. He noted that large down payments often lead lenders to feel more secure and may result in rate or term exceptions. 📊 Key Trends: -Used Vehicles: Average down payment in Q2: $4,140, slightly up from Q1.  -New Vehicles: Average down payment in Q2: $6,579, slightly down year-over-year.  -July Projections: New-vehicle prices and incentives rising, with transaction prices expected to be $44,271.  -Financing: Average monthly payment for new vehicles: $727; for used vehicles: $552. Lambert speculated that higher down payments may be driven by older generations withdrawing from retirement funds. He also expressed concern about new lenders entering the market if interest rates drop, potentially leading to a refinancing boom. Add a lot of negative equity into this scenario and it no wonder auto sales are stagnant. Bring on the 72 month captive finance incentives and 84 month terms, because its the only way most consumers will have a chance at affordability.

BE COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE I started my banking career learning the ropes and understudying others who started before me.I bought note books to take down steps required to process transactions and also learn the processes involved. Buying note books to take notes was my way of retaining what I was taught. I made time over the weekends to study the notes I took down each week. Over time I learnt the processes,the platforms to go to for processing different transactions and as they say the rest became history.I worked all roles in Operations one after the other.I challenged myself to excel on each role that was given to me. In one bank where I worked years back we were challenged to be the best with monthly awards and monetary compensations given to the best staff of the month.This encouraged myself and other colleagues to put in our best. Winning the award was not a 'walk in the park'. For anyone to be considered the winner for the month you had to show workings. I personally got challenged to win. Excellence requires that you show up and walk the talk; you give it your best shot. It requires that you do not settle for mediocrity but constantly aim for the best. To render excellent services is possible. We just have to strive to improve and look for ways to do things better; we have to be innovative and proactive in our approach to issues. If we must be successful, then we must be committed to excellence.
