Turning failure in success! Unfortunately we have seen the dark side of the industry again with the demise of ISG and the result of unsustainable business models...but to be involved in this project from the initial low point and see the successful project delivered reminds us what we as an industry can achieve... not exactly on time and on budget but challenges faced and overcome! Will lessons finally be learned from this? The optimist in me hopes so but the realist doubts it... #construction#endsystems#buildingexpectations

📅 Throwback Thursday 📅
One of the biggest challenges we faced on our Critical Care Unit project at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was how to construct the new 60-bed critical care facility over and above the existing and fully operational two-storey theatre block.
To do this, we constructed a unique steel frame structure around the footprint of the existing theatre building for the new floors to rest on. We then built a temporary platform at one side of the building and split the structure into eight sections. As each section was built it was then slid progressively out over the existing building.
Once the progressive steel slide was completed it then had to be moved vertically. The structure was lowered down three metres on thirty-two different jacks and fixed to the steel around the perimeter, with accuracy and precision being crucial throughout.

🚧 Refining Early-Phase Budgeting for Better Outcomes
The Richmond Hospital rebuild highlights the challenges of managing large-scale construction projects. Initially estimated at $861M, costs have risen to $1.959B—a 127% increase—with completion now expected in 2033, two years later than planned.
Such adjustments emphasize the importance of accurate early-phase budgeting. DHARAMetrics equips teams with data-driven insights, helping to anticipate costs and timelines with greater precision. 😱 Can you believe this is a modular facility?
Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) is becoming increasingly adopted in the NHS, thanks to the enhanced speed of delivery it can offer. But did you know that modular facilities can also be procured via flexible financial solutions?
Take a look at the work we did alongside modular specialists McAvoy, where we implemented the finance solution for 2 no. 48-bed ward facilities for Good Hope Hospital and Heartlands Hospital, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

New backlog maintenance figures from NHS England show the effect of starving NHS of vital capital - NHS Confederation chief executive Matthew Taylor warns that the new NHS estates returns are cause for significant concern with the NHS crying out for essential capital investment.
“These new figures are deeply worrying and demonstrate just how much the NHS is crying out for vital capital investment. As Lord Darzi pointed out, the health service has been starved of capital funding for more than a decade and the result is an NHS estate that is in desperate need of extensive repairs – particularly those trusts who have issues with reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (raac).
“The cost to eradicate backlog maintenance has risen to £13.8 billion, more than the £13.6 billion total cost of running the entire NHS estate. Time and again capital funding pots have been raided to prop up deficits which stemmed from a decade of underinvestment.”
