Webinar! 💻 When we think about what brought us to the work of gender-based violence, it is usually a personal experience, connection to the community, commitment to helping people, or a combination of these. The details of the work may be different, but we are all vulnerable to vicarious trauma as we all bear witness to violence and its effects. Join Esperanza United and #WomensLaw on July 18 for "Responding to Vicarious Trauma: Institutional and Personal Strategies to Deal with Latin@s Facing GBV" to learn about vicarious trauma and the supports we can use to mitigate it:

So pleased to see this important course on trauna-informed evaluation being offered by Jo van Twest Farmer for Australian Evaluation Society in November. Widely relevant for evaluation whether this is of programs specifically designed for people who've experienced traumas, for programs and #internationaldevelopment in #FCV fragile, conflict and violence-affected contexts, or mainstream programs which include people who've experienced trauma - in fact, all our work. https://lnkd.in/gkz2KV82

Gosh UNRWA, why are you sheltering innocent Gazan civilians in a war zone? Why haven't you asked Egypt to allow innocent Gazan civilians to temporarily cross the Egyptian border? If there were no innocent Gazan civilians in Gaza, there could be no innocent Gazan civilian casualties. International Humanitarian Law requires countries to allow innocent civilians to flee a combat area across the nearest non-combatant border. So why haven't you asked Egypt to allow innocent Gazan civilians to temporarily cross the Egyptian border? We know that the terrorists and oligarchs are allowed to cross the Egyptian border whenever they want, either through the tunnels, or with bribes. Why are the vulnerable required to stay in Gaza? Are you insane?
“The school where we were seeking shelter was bombed. I rushed to search for my father in the corridors filled with the dead and injured. I hugged him: I couldn't believe he was still alive,” says 12-year-old Susan. No children should endure such trauma: #CeasefireNow #WRD2024

Each year, World Children’s Day is celebrated on November 20, marking the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. At Safe Steps, we are reminded of the critical need to protect and support children and young people—44% of our clients fall into this vulnerable group, all affected by family and domestic violence. Children are not just passive witnesses to violence; they experience it in deeply personal and impactful ways that shape their emotional, physical, and psychological development. Often unable to fully articulate their trauma, their experiences are real and deserve to be recognised and addressed with the same level of care as adult survivors. At Safe Steps, we believe children and young people must receive comprehensive, wrap-around support tailored to their unique needs. By recognising them as victims in their own right, we ensure they are not left behind in the fight to end family and domestic violence and in our broader effort to break the cycle of intergenerational trauma. If we are to create lasting change, we must approach the issue of family and domestic violence holistically, supporting all survivors—both adults and children—and providing future generations the opportunity to heal and thrive. Today, on World Children’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to offering the support services and care necessary to help children and young people heal, recover, and rebuild their lives. #WorldChildrensDay #EndDomesticViolence #SupportChildren #SafeSteps #BreakTheCycle #FamilyViolenceAwareness #ChildProtection #HealingGenerations
