Hello friends family and acquaintances today is WILDLIFE CONSERVATION DAY - December 4! Elephants Rhinos Tigers Sea turtles Lemurs Gorillas Can you imagine living in a world where these fantastic animals no longer exist? If wildlife crime continues, it could very well happen. This is why Wildlife Conservation Day focuses on putting an end to wildlife crime. The Endangered Species Act Another focus of Wildlife Conservation Day is the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The ESA was signed into law by President Nixon in 1973. The program helps to protect endangered plants and animals. The lead federal agencies for implementing the ESA include: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) The FWS maintains a list of all the endangered species, which include birds, insects, fish, reptiles, mammals, crustaceans, flowers, grasses, and trees. In late 2019 President Trump announced a major overhaul to the law that would reduce regulations. Because of this, it’s more important than ever to support the ESA. #WildlifeConservationDay #dallasharristips

Today, the American Wildlife Conservation Partners (AWCP) – comprised of the nation’s top 52 sporting-conservation organizations that represent America’s hunter-conservationists, professional wildlife and natural resource managers, outdoor recreation users, conservation educators, and wildlife scientists – released Wildlife for the 21st Century, Volume VII (W-21). This comprehensive publication focuses on solutions to conserve wildlife and their habitats across the nation, bolstering public access, and protecting our outdoor traditions. Every four years since AWCP was first convened in 2000, the partners have put forth their collective priorities in Wildlife for the 21st Century, which serves as the roadmap for AWCP’s vision for wildlife and sportsmen and sportswomen. “Our partners that make up AWCP should be proud of their ability to coalesce around a shared set of policy priorities which, should they be adopted, would produce real and meaningful benefits for hunters, habitat, and wildlife across the United States. It is a comprehensive suite of recommendations that can serve as a blueprint for conservation and hunting policy in the future,” said John Devney, AWCP Vice-Chair and Chief Policy Officer for Delta Waterfowl. 🐒 Happy to Share! Our article about the Human-Rhesus Macaques conflict has been published in the WII summer Newsletter. (Parvaiz Yousuf) In this article, we discuss how feeding (provisioning) is changing the behaviour and lives of Rhesus Macaques, one of the most well-known primates in India. We focus on the situation in Delhi, explaining how the decision to relocate these macaques has actually increased conflicts around the Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary. Our research highlights the challenges these monkeys face due to human activities, such as losing their natural habitats and encountering more frequent conflicts with people. By understanding their behaviour and the problems they face, we aim to find better ways to promote human-wildlife coexistence. The article emphasizes the need to protect these animals and their natural habitats. Through raising awareness for wildlife protection, we hope to encourage more sustainable practices that benefit both humans and wildlife. Join us in advocating for wildlife conservation in India! Today is World Wildlife Conservation Day. World Wildlife Conservation Day was created in 2012 and falls on December 4th of every year to raise awareness about endangered and at risk species, their risk of extinction, and the causes of their imperilment (environmental factors, poaching, and trafficking). The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species lists over 41,000 species (28% of all species) that are currently threatened with extinction. One of those species that occurs in Alberta is the Whooping Crane (Grus americana), which is listed as endangered on the Red List. World Wildlife Conservation Day serves a reminder to acknowledge, reflect, and take action against the challenges that are threatening the planet’s wildlife biodiversity balance. Driven by the demand for illegal animal parts and products on the black market, humans have been hunting, poaching, and slaughtering several wildlife species to the brink of extinction. Human interference in the world’s natural ecosystem has been ongoing for centuries. Over time, the prevalence of wildlife hunting and poaching escalated, leading to a global decline in wildlife populations. Unfortunately, the illegal trade of endangered species continues to rise, despite worldwide governmental efforts to curb this practice. Not all species are shielded from poachers and hunters, posing a threat not only to wildlife but also to the millions of people living in or near forested regions globally. Therefore, it is crucial for us to unite in preserving and safeguarding wildlife to ensure their continued survival. #worldwildlifeconservationday #wildlifeconservation

Wildlife Conservation Day: Protect What’s Priceless Today we recognize Wildlife Conservation Day, a global call to action to protect the incredible species that share our planet. From majestic elephants and rhinos to elusive tigers, wildlife is under threat from illegal poaching, habitat loss, and trafficking. The illegal wildlife trade is one of the biggest drivers of species extinction, and its impact reaches far beyond animals—it destabilizes ecosystems and affects communities that rely on natural resources for their livelihoods. But it’s not too late to make a difference. On this Wildlife Conservation Day, let’s raise our voices against illegal poaching and wildlife trafficking, and work together to protect endangered species and the delicate balance of our ecosystems. 🌿 Whether through supporting conservation organizations, advocating for stronger laws, or spreading awareness, every action counts. The time to act is now—because when we protect wildlife, we protect the future of our planet. Learn how you can help: https://lnkd.in/eykQ_Xzx #WildlifeConservationDay #SaveOurWildlife #EndWildlifeTrafficking #ProtectEndangeredSpecies #ConservationMatters #PreserveNature

World Wildlife Conservation Day 2024 Date: Wednesday, 4 December 2024; 12th Anniversary. Objectives: World Wildlife Conservation Day is annually observed for the following purposes: to raise awareness about the species that are endangered or under threat of extinction. to promote the protection of the decreasing numbers of wildlife species across the globe. World Wildlife Conservation Day is on December 4 and we’re so excited to spread awareness about preserving Earth’s endangered flora and fauna. What do you think the most invasive species on Earth is? Monkeys? Catfish? Locusts? It’s us, humans. Nature’s most magnificent creatures are becoming endangered and being pushed to the brink of extinction by the greed of some humans, and this is causing irreparable harm to the wildlife ecosystem.
