I am thrilled to announce the launch of the Humana Health Equity Research Center, made possible through a transformative $6.75 million gift from the Humana Foundation. This six-year initiative positions University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences at the forefront of addressing systemic health disparities and fostering scalable solutions in Louisville and beyond. Of equal importance, this generous gift also enhances our research capacity and faculty resources, so we can continue to influence policy and practice across the nation. As co-director of this new center, I look forward to working with Dr. Ted Smith in the University of Louisville Christina Lee Brown Envirome Institute to advance this vital #healthequity mission and build upon previous work with Humana and the Humana Foundation.

Since launching in 2022, the Center for Climate and Health (CCH) has rolled out a suite of programs and initiatives. This past summer, one such initiative provided funding to three on-campus MPH students, John Lambert, Kerri Sands, and Anna Staddon, to support their practicum work at the nexus of climate and health. “Participating in this research and contributing to the understanding of how climate change impacts reproductive health has been incredibly meaningful to me,” says Sands. New publication from Buccinilab This original peer-reviewed publication was led by our doctoral student Amanda Castelo Saragosa, MPH in collaboration with Dr. Flatt, PhD, MPH. This publication describes a relatively low-burden process that we used to engage our Maternal–Child West Las Vegas Community Advisory Board (WLV‐CAB) to co-create implementation strategies to inform a multi-level intervention to address maternal-child food insecurity in the first 1,000 days: https://lnkd.in/gJ-DpCn9 Key messages: ✔️ Our study advanced the science of co‐creation in the maternal-child field, which are critical to increase interventions' feasibility, acceptability, and ownership. ✅Using a concept mapping activity & consensus building process, our community advisory board (CAB) identified seven thematic areas for addressing maternal‐child food insecurity. 🔍The co‐creation of a culturally sensitive intervention to address maternal‐child food insecurity requires multi‐level strategies across community, service, and families levels. Thanks to Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) for the funding support.

We're thrilled to introduce the 15 finalists for the fourth annual UCLA Health Equity Challenge! These incredible UCLA graduate students are proposing innovative, community-centered solutions to advance health equity for historically marginalized populations. From improving health literacy for farmworkers and creating autism-friendly emergency departments to retrofitting neighborhood playgrounds with wheelchair-accessible playgrounds, their ideas tackle some of the most pressing health disparities in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties. Supported by mentorship and funding, these projects have the potential to make a real impact. Special thanks to our sponsors: The MolinaCares Accord, in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of California, and the California Health Care Foundation for making this program possible.
