BASILICA CISTERN Istanbul, Turkey During our Mediterranean cruise, a few months ago, my wife and I visited many iconic buildings and archaeological sites in Italy, Greece and Turkey. Being our first time in Turkey, we were in awe of the magnificent sites like Ephesus and in Istanbul, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi. However, the Basilica Cistern was just an incredible structure that lies beneath the city of Istanbul. The cistern located 150 metres southwest of Hagia Sophia was built in the 6th century during the reign of Byzantine emperor Justinian when the city was named Constantinople. Today it is kept with little water, for public access inside the space. It is 138 metres by 65 metres in size. The weight of the cistern is carried on the columns by means of the cross – shaped vaults and round arches of its roof. Surprisingly, it was nor rediscovered until 1961. For anyone that will be going to Istanbul, I highly recommend visiting the Basilica Cistern. #architecture #iconicdesign #familytrip #travel #iconic #buildingdesign

- The lines of the blueprint foundations of a monastery (of Batalha) as a statement - We address the hypothesis that the Monastery of Batalha, Portugal, can symbolically represent the Portuguese territory through the correspondence between the plan of its foundations and the main rivers and other geographical features on this side of the Iberian Peninsula. We used concepts from Peirce's semiotics to analyze this relationship, suggesting that the monastery would not only be a physical construction, but also a cultural and symbolic element implicitly rooted in Portuguese history and identity. The implications of the veracity of the interpretations presented here could lead, on the one hand, to a reassessment of how architecture is understood in historical contexts, valuing symbolic aspects in the design of buildings and other spaces of a religious nature. On the other, to highlight the importance of multidisciplinary approaches in historical research, highlighting the value of reading and interpreting monuments not only as physical structures, but as objects rich in cultural and historical significance. All this provided by an unknown architect from other times through his vision of a monument, highlighting the idea that the sacred intertwines with the land and the cultural identity of a territory that goes beyond its own, not inherent solely to Portuguese society, but to the people who cohabit it. In short, this recognition could inspire a rediscovery of the meaning of personal religare inserted in an increasingly accelerated urban mundane life, through a broader concept, in which the role of spirituality as an integral part of this cultural heritage is reinforced. All this is only noticeable from above. Contemplate.

More than just a burial ground for four revered Kabakas (kings) of Buganda, the Kasubi tombs represent a unique architectural style, a vibrant spiritual center, and a symbol of cultural continuity. The architectural marvel that housed the tombs was a masterpiece of traditional craftsmanship. Built entirely from organic materials like wood, reeds, and grass, it embodied the harmony between the Baganda people and their environment. The domed-shaped structures boasted intricate details and symbolic features, each element whispering tales of the Buganda legacy. Beyond their architectural significance, the Kasubi Tombs hold immense spiritual value for the Baganda. Within the royal enclosure lies the sacred Kibira forest, a hidden space where the Kabakas are believed to reside in the afterlife. Rituals and ceremonies are frequently performed here, creating a powerful link between the past, present, and future generations. The Kasubi Tombs serve as a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms, a place for the Baganda to connect with their ancestors and seek guidance. The Kasubi Tombs stand as a powerful symbol of the Buganda Kingdom's enduring legacy. They are a testament to the people's respect for their past, their deep connection to their spiritual beliefs, and their unwavering commitment to cultural preservation. In 2001 the tombs where made UNESCO world heritage cultural site. for more information visit our website https://lnkd.in/e6rkuJQN or contact us by emailing us on info@exclusiveugandasafaris.com

#ExploringtheAncientMajestyofPortaNigra #Germany #WorldHeritageSite Nestled in the picturesque city of Trier, Germany, stands a monument that transcends time and beckons visitors to delve into the depths of history - the Porta Nigra. This imposing structure, dating back to Roman times, serves as a tangible link to the past, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of a bygone era. As one approaches the Porta Nigra, its sheer size and intricate stonework leave a lasting impression. The Latin name, meaning "Black Gate," owes its origin to the darkened color of its sandstone blocks, a result of centuries of exposure to the elements. This ancient city gate, with its massive towers and intricate carvings, stands as a testament to Roman engineering prowess and architectural finesse. Stepping through the arches of the Porta Nigra is akin to stepping back in time, as visitors are enveloped in the aura of antiquity. The echoes of the past whisper through the stone corridors, inviting exploration and contemplation of the lives once lived within these walls. Today, the Porta Nigra stands not only as a UNESCO World Heritage Site but also as a symbol of resilience and endurance. Despite the passage of centuries and the ravages of time, this architectural marvel continues to stand tall, a silent witness to the ebb and flow of history. For those with a penchant for history and a thirst for adventure, a visit to the Porta Nigra is a journey not to be missed. It is a chance to walk in the footsteps of ancient Romans, to marvel at their ingenuity, and to connect with a past that still shapes the world we live in today.

'Because our homes are structures of our memories and history' I would like to share with you an architectural heritage preservation project that talks about restoring and reviving the heritage of our ancestors’ homes. “Houses have always been the source of human identity and culture.” Heritage houses were chosen for the Khreisat family in Salt - Kufr Hooda, as well as a house hewn in the rock (it has now become a place for the family graves - father, mother, son-). What is astonishing about Kafr Hooda is that despite the size of the ancient ruins in it, the caves, and their antique character, there is no official archaeological information about them, nor has it been surveyed and excavated within the antiquities inside it, or it was done at a previous stage , It was not declared. In addition, there is a scarcity of information written about the place in past times, and in the writings of travellers, geographers and historians. the main goal of the project is highlight areas that are no longer mentioned and operating and serving the area to enriching the heritage and history of this village , which was not only consecrated by architectural heritage, but also by the contribution of fathers and grandfathers in developing the architectural and cultural identity of Kufr Hooda in building houses.

The church of S.Agata dei Goti is not only unknown to tourists, but also to most Romans as it is located in a very short street with little traffic, via Mazzarino, which joins via Nazionale to via Panisperna. Precisely for this reason, a peace and tranquility reign within it which, despite being a stone's throw from the chaotic city traffic, encourage anybody to remain immersed in the extraordinary silence that embraces you everywhere. It must have existed already in 460 when a certain consul Flavius Recimero had the apse adorned with splendid mosaics, now lost, and was known by the name of S. Agata in Suburra, since it is located on the borders of this area of the Monti district, once infamous. After becoming a temple of the Goths, who had taken up residence in this area following sieges and destruction, it was reconsecrated by Pope Gregorio il Grande at the end of the 5th century AD. Years pass, or rather centuries, and the church falls into disrepair, until in the Baroque period, with the spirit of renewal that pervaded the city of Rome, it was restored and in the 18th century the façade was also redone by the architect Francesco Ferrari. Inside, the original construction is remembered by the typical basilica plan with three naves, separated by sixteen ancient columns. The only original parts, although restored over the centuries, are the apse and the right side on which the typical Romanesque style windows open. The most valuable work that can be seen inside today is the beautiful inlaid ciborium created between the 12th and 12th centuries by the Cosmati, master marble workers specialized in decorating with appropriately cut and shaped polychrome stones and marbles. Now this church has been brought under control at the behest of the Bank of Italy as it is itself demolishing and rebuilding an adjacent building and fears that these works could cause damage. This control is carried out by means of a monitoring system (@DEWESoft) with inclinometers, crack meters and, above all, with many accelerometric modules (#IOLITE3xMEMS) which have the main purpose of detecting impulsive phenomena beyond a limit threshold. Furthermore, the dynamic monitoring system is suitable for starting trigger recordings in case of seismic events and provides a precious source of data which allow for periodic dynamic characterizations using operational modal analysis (#OMA).

Uxmal is a captivating archaeological site that showcases the architectural prowess of the ancient Maya civilization. Situated in the Puuc region, Uxmal boasts a unique style of Maya architecture known as "puuc" architecture, characterized by intricate stone mosaics adorning ornate facades. The Governor's Palace stands out as one of the most impressive structures at Uxmal, with its detailed stone carvings and mosaics depicting mythological and historical themes. The facade of the palace is adorned with geometric patterns and symbols, reflecting the Maya's advanced artistic and mathematical knowledge. The Pyramid of the Magician, also called the Pyramid of the Soothsayer, is another iconic structure at Uxmal. Unlike other Maya pyramids built in stages, this pyramid is believed to have been constructed in one continuous effort, giving it a unique rounded shape. Legend has it that the pyramid was magically built overnight by a dwarf born from an egg, adding to its mysterious allure.
