Some thoughts from my panel intervention "Happy coexistence with nature, citizens, and fisheries?"at the Annual Event #WindEurope2024 in Bilbao. As someone deeply involved in pushing for a fast, fair, and nature-friendly #renewableenergy acceleration through my work with Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, the discussion was close to my heart. It’s clear that if we want to see the massive volumes of wind energy 🌬 getting off the ground, we need to bring 💚 local communities into the heart of the conversation. Key takeaways: 🤝 Engaging with Communities: It's about real conversations and genuine dialogue, understanding local needs and concerns, and acting on them. Developers must move beyond viewing communities as obstacles or mere stakeholders to be informed, towards seeing them as active partners in planning, developing, and sharing the benefits of wind energy projects. 💬 Being Fair, Open, and Inclusive: It is about early, transparent, and honest communication. Communities must have a say in projects that affect their lives and must be provided with opportunities to participate meaningfully in decision-making processes, including the location, planning, and development of these projects. 💪 The Power of Community Ownership: When communities can own and co-invest, they see the tangible benefits of wind projects and cherish the projects with pride. These projects do more than just generate power, they EMPOWER communities by ensuring economic benefits are retained locally and foster broad support for the energy transition. Reflecting on the discussions we had, I'm reminded that at the core of our climate action efforts, it is the peoples participation and their empowerment what truly drive meaningful change. As we continue transforming our societies and economies towards a climate neutral Europe, fully powered by #renewableenergy, let's ensure that every step we take also builds stronger, more resilient communities along the way. #TogetherFor100RE Mattia Cecchinato Ariel Brunner Guy Willems WindEurope https://lnkd.in/eRqQAH-y

Transformation is more than just change; it's about achieving justice, equality, and sustainability through systemic shifts. Our goal is to reshape how we manage water by fostering learning and developing policy analysis tools, planning approaches, and adaptive management strategies. Last year in Mexico, we held our inaugural workshop exhibition which saw water management experts from around the world discuss the concept of transformation in water management. The workshop emphasized the importance of collaboration and stakeholder engagement in the transformative process. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), aeration in biological treatment processes typically accounts for between 50-70% of the total energy consumption in wastewater treatment plants. This information is often cited in energy audits and optimization studies conducted for municipal wastewater treatment facilities. Aeration is important in wastewater treatment because it provides oxygen to bacteria to break down organic matter. Without enough oxygen, bacteria can't break down organic matter in a reasonable time, which can lead to septic conditions and less efficient contaminant removal. With Atlas Copco blowers, facilities can achieve significant energy savings while ensuring a consistent, reliable airflow for the crucial aeration process. These blowers are used in key processes like aeration, membrane bioreactors, and filter backwashing, helping plants achieve optimal energy use and performance. They were here on a 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁-𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 visiting the Danish water utilities HOFOR and Novafos as well as a number of companies including AVK. Michael Ramlau-Hansen from AVK Holding introduced them to AVK, our history and our products. He also introduced them to the LEAKman project – an integrated leakage management solution to bring down NRW levels. In addition, Business Development Director in AVK Smart Water, Gerner Knudsen presented our AVK Smart Water solutions. There was also a good dialogue about how the American water utilities looks at the digitalization of the water distribution network. The delegation was also shown around in our Showroom and the exhibition on AVK SMART products at AVK International. Thank you all for visiting us Austin Water, Bay Area Water Supply And Conservation Agency 𝗕𝗔𝗪𝗦𝗖𝗔 City of Pflugerville, Texas, EBMUD, Aqua Water Supply Corporation, San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, Helix Water District, Golden State Water Company, California American Water, Kamstrup North America, Erhvervshus Midtjylland, Niels Bech Laursen, Joe Ball, The Trade Council of Denmark in North America - Energy and Environment Hans Peter Kyk And thank you to Rosa Marie Mathiasen and Lars Ravnborg for leading the team. The tour was arranged by the The Water Technology Alliance (WTA) program under the The Trade Council in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. The purpose of 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗪𝗧𝗔) is knowledge sharing between the North American and Danish water industry to promote the exchange of views and experiences within the water and wastewater field. It is a collaboration between American utilities and authorities and Danish utilities and companies. The collaboration originates in an agreement between the Californian state government and the Danish government, which was signed in 2016. Both 𝗔𝗩𝗞 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔/𝗦 and American AVK Company actively participate in this collaboration, where we contribute with knowledge about our role in relation to the Danish water supply and wastewater management. These inputs are then translated into American terms, with American AVK playing the major role. This collaboration has lifted the AVK brand significantly on the American market 💙 #ExpectAVK #AVKgroup #cooperation #partnership #AVKSmartWater
