A great day for New Zealand science today with the EPA decision to allow hydrogen cyanamide(HC) to be contined to be used in the kiwfruit industry. So often we agrichemicals been lost because of public perception as opposed to facts. Like many agrichemcials- used appropriately by trained operators, the assessment showed communities and the environment can be protected while allowing our food producers to grow healthy food in a sustainable way. The loss of HC would have seen kiwfruit yields plummet by over 30%, and this industry's orchard carbon footprint increase similarly. For many growers it would have made orcharding unprofitable, and prevented many consumers experiencing one the world's healthiest fruits. One of the largest historical contributing factors that made all this possible was the introduction, many years ago, of air inclusion nozzles to airblast sprayers to eliminate spraydrift from winter spraying.. A multidiscplainary research and extension team lead by Zespri pioneered this technology. Plant physiolgists, research managers adjuvant specialists, growers, spray consultants, sprayin contractors, chemcial companies and extension staff all worked collabratively together to perfect a technology that is standard practice in the industry today. To all the industry players overs the years that have used and refined this technology and refuted many of the unsustainated claims with good science- Well done.

🌱 Delve into the Future of Food: Exploring the Rise of Alternative Proteins 🌍 As global demand for protein soars, alternative proteins emerge as a sustainable solution to meet this growing need. Traditional animal agriculture significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, underscoring the importance of alternative proteins in climate change mitigation efforts. 🔬 Innovative technologies like fermentation and cell culture are revolutionizing protein production. Fungi, algae, and microbial organisms are emerging as promising sources. However, for widespread adoption, these alternatives must match the sensory and economic appeal of traditional protein sources. 💡 Amidst this transformation, the alternative proteins sector is experiencing distinct investment cycles. A recent surge in backing novel technologies at lower Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) leads to increased pre-seed and seed investments. You can find more and explore key information to start shaping the future of food with our alternative proteins article: https://lnkd.in/dv5u_qM3 #AlternativeProteins #FutureOfFood #Sustainability #ClimateTech

🌱 Witnessing the Power of Microbial Biostimulants in Changing Climate Conditions 🌾 In light of the recent massive storm that hit Lithuania, the resilience of our crops is more crucial than ever. Fields treated with microbials (in this case BioNPK Powder S) have demonstrated a remarkable difference: treated plants remained standing strong, while untreated areas were flattened to the ground. This visible proof underscores the profound benefits of microbial biostimulants: 🌍 Enhanced Plant Strength: Some microbial biostimulants, such as those in BioNPK Powder S, contain silica-solubilizing bacteria. These bacteria release soluble silica, which is integrated into plant cell walls, enhancing their structural integrity and resistance to physical stresses like heavy winds and storms. 🌏 Root Zone Fortification: The multiple strains of fungi and bacteria promote a healthier and more extensive root system. This stronger root network improves plant anchorage and nutrient uptake, critical for withstanding environmental challenges. 🌍 Improved Resilience: These biostimulants improves the plant's ability to stand not only storms but also droughts by improving water retention and nutrient uptake efficiency. This is essential in an era of unpredictable weather patterns and increasingly frequent drought conditions. 🌏 Biological Synergy: The diverse microbial community in BioNPK Powder S fosters a synergistic environment in the rhizosphere, enhancing nutrient cycling and availability. This synergy not only boosts plant health and growth but also aids in the rapid recovery from abiotic stress. Nando #microbials #agriculture #agtech #biotech

🌾🧬 As the agricultural landscape evolves, CRISPR technology emerges as a powerful tool to ensure food security and sustainability. As we've seen in the past year, frequent and severe droughts, storms and heat waves pose a significant threat to global food security. To tackle this problem, food scientists are leveraging CRISPR technology to enhance staple food crops and make them more resilient to extreme environments. In our recent blog post, we delve deep into what the CRISPR technology is and how it helps make a more secure and resilient food system. Some companies operating in the industry include: Sanatech Seed, Shimpei Takeshita Singrow Pte Ltd, Shengjie BAO 鲍晟杰 BetterSeeds , Ido Margalit Agragene Inc, Bryan Witherbee Conscious Foods, David Copeland Learn more about the CRISPR technology here: https://lnkd.in/eggACDrm #ForwardFooding #CRISPR #agtech #sustainability #climatechange #biotech #foodsystem
