DBAHS Media Productions Sign Off This year's Media Productions classes did a great job highlighting our students and teachers through their contributions to DBTV, Mr. Boone and your weekly announcements. As the class sign-offs for the year, we celebrate this year’s roster of content creators. At the very end (Timestamp 03:40), we also pay tribute to a very special graduating member of Blazer Media. We hope everyone has a wonderful summer. We'll see you next year! https://lnkd.in/e-wdeSKU #DBBlazers

Fed-up of streaming and leaning back into physical media? Well, you're not alone - this is where I've found myself recently. And because I've returned to the realm of DVD, Blu-ray, and the like, I've just launched a new blog about all things physical media. I could have called it 'Let's Get Physical', but I didn't. Instead it's called Home Video Haven. #Movies #Films #Blogs #Blogger #PhysicalMedia #Writer https://lnkd.in/dRduCHqZ

A tip for you incoming broadcast producers and reporters on clarity. Let’s take Louisiana’s current special session for example. It’s tough for us to write about, right? Staring at that screen… Pretend you’re explaining HB 1 to a high school teacher. Would you feel confident in your answer? If the answer is “no,” then go read more about HB1. In five minutes, you’ll see results. The more you know the material, the easier those stories are to tell. Ask your high school teacher. #producers #reporters #broadcastnews

No matter how talented you are, if your availability is inconsistent, all you are is hype. There's no need to waste time broadcasting what you intend to do when you should do it silently. The more attention you draw by speaking about intent, the larger target you become. Speak less and do more. Listen twice as much as you talk.

There are a lot of doom-and-gloom headlines in traditional and new media talking about the contraction of the entertainment industry, and asking, “Is this industry committed to scripted projects today?” The simple answer is: yes! Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gGDjRfu4

Bruce Springsteen once told us that there are ``57 channels and nothing on" (https://lnkd.in/dp6w5ZqF). As an economist, I have been wondering for a while why premium programs get so concentrated within a few channels, whether it is something that regulatory authorities should care about and whether there would exist simple regulatory instruments that could favor a more symmetric distribution of broadcasting rights. With my old fellow Jérôme Pouyet (ESSEC, CNRS), and motivated by discussions with our friends at Altermind, Erwan Le Noan and Matthieu Laine, we investigated this issue and asked Why Is Exclusivity in Broadcasting Rights Prevalent and Why Does Simple Regulation Fail? https://lnkd.in/dVzX-iPS We unveiled that there are strong economic forces leading to exclusivity and that simple regulatory tools are of little help. At the end of the day, ``There is only one channel with something on...." I am now glad to say that this paper has now been accepted at The Rand Journal of Economics. Abstract: Pay-TV firms compete both downstream to attract viewers and upstream to acquire broadcasting rights. Because profits inherited from downstream competition satisfy a Convexity Property, allocating rights to the dominant firm maximizes the industry profit. Such an exclusive allocation of rights emerges as a robust equilibrium outcome but may fail to maximize welfare. We analyze whether a ban on resale and a ban on package bidding may improve welfare. These corrective policies have no impact on the final allocation but lead to profit redistribution along the value chain.
