Daniel Akorede, ACIPM, HRPL’s Post

I recently saw a post on the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria CIPM (Official LinkedIn Account) page that got me thinking. You would agree with me that the leadership of the body has improved tremendously over the last decade, thanks to the influx of creative and innovative individuals taking up leadership roles. The post highlighted how several branches were recognized and rewarded for their significant impact over the past year. What caught my attention was that the body not only recognized the best branch but also acknowledged the most improved branch. This shows that the body values both excellence and improvement. Personally, I believe this approach serves as a source of motivation for all branches, demonstrating that even small efforts are appreciated. In the workplace, we often recognize and reward top performers while overlooking the most improved employees. As HR professionals, it would be beneficial to also identify and acknowledge the most improved employees within our workforce. This practice could boost employee morale and increase productivity. Recognizing the most improved employee is encouraging to those who may have struggled initially but have made progress. They will feel valued and seen. It sends a message that growth and effort are appreciated, not just final outcomes.

Awesome point. Recognizing most improved employee will serve as a morale booster for lower performer employees to raise the bar.

While the reward of “ improved employees “ is enhanced morale (among other non-monetary benefits). Often times, recognition based on outstanding performance is the order of the day. NB: Average is below best. I find your post insightful 👍

I totally agree with you Sir, new award/reward systems should be initiated in the workplace by HR's, as best staffs award is mostly known in all companies. Every year staffs do await to get that same reward title. Recognising a staff who has improved better through trainings and learnings goes a long way to motivate others and make them work effectively and efficiently. Best Improved Staff awards should be highly recommended.
